Last night my dog Jetta killed a skunk. Jetta is good with cats and she was really good with my daughter when she was a baby. I always knew Jetta had a high pray drive because she is part beagle. She once got a hold of a cat that she didn’t know. All she did was sniff the poor cat. Well one of my friends says that once a dog kills a small animal, the dog thinks it’s ok to kill everything that is small. Is that true? I can’t imagine that Jetta would suddenly become a cat killer. My sister has dogs who kill rabbits all the time, and they never hurt her cats.

Aussie, thank you so much for your reply, I’m sorry that I didn’t get back to you much sooner. To tell the truth Jetta and I have kinda figured a lot of stuff out by ourselves. Her walking is really, really good now. Almost no trouble with it anymore. She has also become much better about ignoring other dogs. I wouldn’t say she is a social butterfly by any means, but I have found that if we go about the intro the right way she can even make friends.
I wish I could turn back time and have her as a puppy and fix some things. But she spent the first year of her life on a chain 24/7 and I think she does really well considering. Still can’t get that recall to work. I would like to try an E collar training to see if that would help bridge the gap from leash to no leash. But I will have to save up for a good collar, I don’t want to get a cheep one that doesn’t work well.
It didn’t hit me how well she was doing until one night two big dogs came out of nowhere. They were standing on tiptoes with their tails up and ears perked. I didn’t know really what to do other than try and stay calm. There was tentative sniffing and Jetta basically let them sniff her over. I said “come Jetta” and began walking without trying to look like I was running away. Jetta came without me having to drag her. It would have been bad if Jetta got into it with them because there would have been nothing I could have done to get them off her. But I think God Jetta had the wisdom to submit to dogs who outweighed her but a good 40 lbs.
Also I know that I am not hurting her with her pinch collar because she loves to have it put on. To her the collar means fun time.

Well I'm no trainer but it sounds like you have made up your mind to me. I say if you feel it's right, go for it. It could make for a wonderful last few months with Willow.

On a forum that I left a few months back Cersar Millan was scoffed about by most of the members. I myself had never seen his show because I don’t have cable. But it seemed to me that what they were complaining about didn’t sound too fair from NILIF. I have been reading a book of his and I think it’s great. It has been highlighting some of the problems that I have with my dogs and I suddenly see things that I have been doing wrong. So I was wondering what everyone else thought of him. I would have put this in debate but I don’t really want to debate I just wanted to know what everyone else thinks. Later, Tammi.

Hey I just thought I would give a quick update. Although Stella has not read anything I sent her she seems to be listening to my advice. I downloaded a free dog training ebook and am reading it before sending it her way. It’s very simple and it’s for beginners. It’s a PP method but it seems to explain some about dog behavior and how to become a leader of your dog.
It’s only 47 pages and the author says to share it with friends, so I think I’ll print it out and send it to her in the mail. Maybe that way she can just pick it up and read no matter where she is in the house.

I have wanted to get laminate flooring for years now. I hate carpet, aside from hair sticking to it like velcro, it is a magnet for allergens, and there is no way to disinfect it.
My hubby is just now seeing my side, but we want to move to the country, so I might as well put up with the carpet for a few more years.

Richard, There is no need to be sorry, I seen this coming a mile away. Stella is the daughter of my elder brother, and their family has always had pets that were either treated badly, or being treated oddly. Stella’s mother has been trying to train her Beagle to pee in the walk-in shower. Why, because she doesn’t want to get up and let it out in the morning. (Her words not mine) Cats are given dog food to eat when the cat food runs out, because the dogs are allowed to eat it all. Once when I was a teen, I was visiting their house for the weekend, and found petrified dog poop under my pillow. When I talk to Stella about training, she goes into how she has been around dogs all her life. And she knows how to train them, because she watched a video when she was 12 and got her first dog. (The poop under the pillow belonged to her first dog) I will still send her some stuff about NILIF and house training and I’ll let you know what she says. Sibemom, I agree with you. I let my hubby talk me into leting the dogs on the furniture and now I am seeign the error of my ways. 8-)I have been keeping them off, but sheesh, once you start letting them up, it's ten times as harder to make them stop.
