Oh well, it seems we came to an outlet road, like if one of us is christian and the other one is muslim and we are trying to convert eachother
Masha (who started the post) just has to choose with method fits her better and if it does not work then she can choose the other one
So she has more than only one solution and that means she has more chances to solve the problem

;D...and of course experience has shown us that hard core PP people will not try another method even if theirs is not working.
(Masha, I am not referring to you). ;D

I agree with that but what can we do about it?

Lets not lose sight of the fact that Masha posted that this sudden change in behavior started at or about the same time the dog became ill...coughing, shivering and clinging. Masha thought the dog has kennel cough and the last she reported she was going to the vet. So this may be a reaction to feeling sick in the car. Maybe the dog associates the car with sickness. Maybe once the dog gets better, she will not react fearful. I think the health issue should be dealt with before anything else. I believe in rewarding dogs, but only once they’ve learned to follow standard rules, boundaries, and limitations though my pack leadership." Juan, I agree with some of the things you say but this I don't, or I don't understand what you are saying. How do you teach if you don't reward. And by reward I don't just mean treats. I mean anything that motivates the dog. If you are not rewarding until the dog knows and obeys the rules, how does the dog learn the rules. Teaching with no rewards is pure aversive training. I don't agree with that. I never ever issue any type of correction until I KNOW FOR CERTAIN that the dog understands the rule or command and is blowing me off. Some things require a correction to stop a behavior and reward for doing so at the same time like jumping up, garbage picking, barking for no reason and similar things. But the dog must have a balance in all situations. And with commands, I make sure he understands the rules under various distractions before a correction is even considered. Maybe I misunderstood what you said.

I agree that you have made a good point about Ana, Nicki. ;D
Also, we have to remember that Cesar is working with dogs who are already messed up and as he always says: He is a dog behaviorist not a dog trainer. He rehabilitates dogs, he trains people.
If you start your puppy out the right way, it shouldn't have any behavioral problems.

Holy Cow...talk about taking a subject and running with it !! I think Nicki nailed it: treat the underlying cause (kennel cough and/or associated medical problems) and you may find the problem will resolve itself or at least start again when she's feeling herself. Once Masha's dog has recovered (which I hope is soon btw), car rides may be ordinary again, or even looked at as a treat: going to a special area for a long walk - something that would get her excited - in a good way. It'll take some time to rebuild that trust and enjoyment of what lies at the end of the ride.

No, far from it. One question spawned so many thoughts, ideas, suggestions...all in a balanced, albieit sometimes off centre (well my posts anyway LOL) fashion that you can see different sides and really get a good handle on it. That is what makes this forum better than a lot of them out there!!
