Anyway - I realize it is splitting hairs but I believe a PP trainer would distract the dog from growling at the child by calling it or using a look at me command and then click and treat... You are correct, Amyjo... distract or redirect, never correct in the way we mean, with a collar or verbal correction. I have had PP people tell me they would never use a negative verbal correction, such as "no" either.

K9Rocky....It would be impossible for me to watch over my dogs and my kids every second of everyday! I do use a crate when I need to....but realistically speaking....100% supervision is not a reality. You answered your own point there boxerlover...use a crate when you can't keep an eye on the dog....I would never expect someone to keep an eye on dog/child all day...that is indeed, unrealistic....I just needed to point out that someone always has to keep at least tabs on the dog/kids when they're together that's all....you do the best you can with the resources (usually just you) you got... -Richard

Ok Luv you got upset and yes I guess we did get a little goofey with the clicker thing but you must understand the same results you just said you got in the time frame you described, are not from PP training they are from TRAINING in general. If done correctly the dogs learn quickly, and I have had the same results using my method. I would never start a dog one way and then when I see it is just not working switch. To me that is very confusing to the dog. I might change the approach a little or the reward, or the driving force of what I use to get the dog to work, but to start with PP training and switch to what most of us do would I think ruin your dog in someway. I am very glad you have success in clicker training, for myself I guess it's just not for me. I am not as harsh as it may sound but I am extremly firm but at the same time fair and very loving, and my dogs are benefiting from the way I have choosen to train them. My Sibe was an experiment because I wanted to show people that the bad reputation that the breed is getting is just not so, and I wanted to prove that with proper training these dogs will and are capable of anything. With my GSD pup, she is a cake walk compared to Blade and again I am using the same motivational methods. Please don't get upset with us, nothing was said about the PP training was directed at you personally. We have had some though that were just way out there , and that is why we need many explenations as to how you get this to work. Not saying I will ever use this method but I would at least like to understand it better than I do now
