Hi Sibemom, As a mom of 2 dogs, I strongly suggest waiting till the first is 100% till you get another one! Its is more than double the work, and you want to make sure you have vocal control over the older one before bringing in a baby! Yes they mature, and yes it will take like 2-3 years for some breeds!!!!! My lab turned 2 in Feb (gee, I remember posting on DP the day I brought her home), and she is still quite a baby. We have a long way to go before #3!
We could talk about some of the problems you might face if you do it too early if you want. Mich

Thanks Michelle I am not worried about me taking on more than I can handle I have had 15 dogs at once So that isnt why I am waiting. We have to be ready as a family and right now we're not ;D I think to I would maybe like to get a young adult not a pup. So when the time is right we will know ;D What you said though is good common sense, if you can't controll the dog you have don't add more the mess ;D

Oh Sibemom, you are too right. I learned the hard way though, I think although my older dog was veyr well trained when I brought in my #2, I didn't deal with his food aggression around other dogs, and it was a problem early on. I can feel your pain though, I look at puppies in the newspaper every weekend! 15 dogs! Wow, thats a lot of dog hair Do you invest in vaccuum bags Nice to meet you - take care!

My husband told me once when he was frustrated with me always wanting more animals, that when I get old and senile...(I think I am there ) instead of putting me in a nursing home, I was going to a zoo, maybe then I would feel I had enough animals!!!!!!!!!!!
