She of course does not mean that you should give a treat every time though. They should not *expect* it...it just turns out to be a great surprise and keeps them going other times working for more.

The methods are great it's the owners view of everything. Adam believes that his methods and the pinch/e-collars are for use on every dog. From the timid soft abused dog to the most fierce dominant aggressive dogs. He thinks its a cure for every problem problem dog in the world. You can read that alone in his stickied threads. "All dogs are hardwired the same way" Last I checked dogs were not mechanical. He has a screw loose. You can really do damage to certain dogs by training them the wrong ways. Training with a pinch is no more universal than training with a clicker. I don't care who you are or how much experience you have it's just not so. Many of us here have had personal issues with him and it's not just us. Stay there long enough and you will see it. I've read things on his board (which of course were quickly deleted) where people begin to see the light. I've also talked to other people who at one point or time were members there. All I can say is...don't buy his book or anything else from him if you ever want to disagree with him. Once you do that he will have no second thoughts about banning you if you ever disagree with him or cross him. Even if it is done in the nicest way. Ask GSD (Ken) who was a regular member there for a looong time...Then again I forgot you aren't allowed to coverse off the board with any other members. I could tell you exactly why but...I won't get into all that here. Long story... Don't even get me started on the infomercial stuff. The book is good permitted it's used on the correct dogs. (Although too many analogies in my opinion). The thing that burns me the most is that they allow this person (veega) to remain on that board. She classifies herself as a professional but I have never seen anything from her that really adds up to it. She has been bitten more than all of the people I know put together. She rarely offers any advice to anyone except for the one time when she announced she had picked her dominant aggressive bull dog up "by his ears" and held him in the air BY THEM. I'm sorry but the only thing that proves is that she is a lunatic. And they protect her! I don't get it... she doesn't even offer up anything advice wise to that board. Why they protect someone like that and allow her to continue her crap is beyond me...Personally I think she's a long standing troll because she either seriously dosen't know what she's doing or she's doing it on purous to get a rise out of people. Either way it's sad because untrained people read that and who knows what they walk away doing to their dogs.

Oh doesn't that response just fit D Ames? I guess she forgot that veega said "Not only do I feel I'm above the rest, I know it. I know noone here delivers the resultys I do, noone approaches dog training from the behav. stands as I do." in dog training and behavior knowlege.
I find that funny because she's bit more times than everyone put together on that board. I also saw a comment that she made where she pulled her bull dog "OFF THE GROUND" by it's ears and held him there.

Ok...had to read it too after that comment aussie... There is something VERY disturbing about that chick. I'm using her own quote here... Some people are just plain MORONS She gets bitten so bad she needs to visit the ER but finishes the lesson first and then suggests euthanasia? Does something sound a little off here?

AGAIN?! You've gotta be kidding me! That woman gets more bites than fleas. You work with dogs it's a given you are going to get bit eventually but come on! You should definately be able to get in by now Cathy. If you have problems just go up to Tools, Internet Options and clear your cookies. I usually click the "delete files" button as well when I do that. You don't have to be registered to read anymore. What a shock huh? All his secrets might get out.

Yeah I kind of have to side with Amyjo on this one. There is a time and place for positive training or even clicker training for that matter with certain types of dogs if thats what you prefer, but those willing to challenge you...well lets just say rewarding the dog by not only keeping the bone but walking away I can't see effective or motivational. The same exact things were running through my head amyjo as I read as well. You'd basically be training the dog that by backing off...the dog wins... YOU may not think you need to fight for it but the dog obviously does or else it wouldn't be "warning" you. The bone in itself is the reward in this case. You walk away the dog is already rewarded by keeping the bone and it reinforces the behavior and in effect the dog learns it growls you give in. It's already got one thing it wants, i.e. the bone. The effectiveness part in training is the motivation part. This is the reason why so many dogs become aggressive or bad barkers towards the mailman or the paperboy. They come to the house... the dogs give warning and the mailman or paperboy leave the premesis and it continues. In their mind THEY have trained these people... or in this case, whom ever is backing off.

Other than not taking the bone away for the day I would say you did great! You are thinking along the right lines in a corrective manner. Thats how I would have handled it or correcting with the pinch collar. If he growls for guarding anything take it away for the day.
