Okay you guys...back to the raw feeding...
I gotta tell you, this is really starting to freak me out. In Kylie the difference is mainly in her shiny coat and better breath which is good enough - but she is just a baby...
Elvis on the other hand who is 12 has shown me a prettier coat and better breath but here is the stuff that is amazing me!
1.He has always shed like a freak. Year round, constant and ALOT....It would come out in giant clumps in my hand when I pet him and no amount of brushing or shed blading really helped the situation... Don't get me wrong - he still sheds - but it is really much improved...
2. He is playing like a puppy in the back yard with Kylie. Never really expected that!
3. And probably the most amazing thing I have seen so far is a greater clarity in his eyes.
I can't believe this stuff - in such a short amount of time - this really is amazing and it happened SO FAST. So fast in fact that it is completley unbelievable..
Now don't get me wrong it isn't all roses - Elvis has indeed tossed his cookies a few more times - I think it is from eating too fast - it is usually within moments of eating.

regurgitating or vomiting can be caused by several things, and Kerra has just started doing it after being fed raw for close to a year now! I have made her homeopath aware of it and if it keeps up, we will have to treat her for it. She only does it when I feed her anything other than chicken!!! That doesn't come back up, so I think it has something to do with the harder bone in the other meat. She also gags, gacks and coughs after eating the other meat/bones. Sigh. Always something just when you think you are home free! ;D A word about veggies/fruits....They really aren't necessary, and if fed, just because it makes you feel better ;D, they should be fed cooked and mashed fine. Veggies fed raw, even if ground fine, will come out undigested in the poop. It doesn't hurt to feed them and esp. if they like them, but it also doesn't hurt NOT to feed them. Just so everyone understands that. It's just a personal preference. Also, as I said before..it helps to feed some at first until their body gets used to digesting the RMB's, because some dogs can become constipated. Mine never did. Also make sure you are feeding the organ meats a couple times a week to make sure they are getting a well balanced diet. I really urge anyone feeding raw to get on the raw feeding list on yahoo, and what I do is have the individual em's come to my home em address. They are much easier to read and reply to like that, rather than trying to read them on the yahoo site. I get all confused trying to do that and miss half of them!!!

Loey....come to think of it - Elvis does best on the chicken - the days he pukes are the days he eats other bones and then has mush later. I decided to stick with the mush - because it does make me feel better - but the day I feed it - I will either feed chicken in the am or nothing else not sure yet. I also increased the meat to veggie ratio.
I did join the yahoo list today - I don't like Yahoo lists - I get all confused but I did read some great info.
Thanks for all your help and support with this - it is all new stuff but I am really enjoying it and the results couldn't be more spectacular.
I agree that the shopping is actually easier - I just check out the meat case when I am shopping for myself. I got pigs feet yesterday ;D

With Blade he never has puked but he even on raw is a very picky eater. He only likes chicken leg quarter and turkey legs. He will eat the ground turkey but I have to dress it up a bit with eggs and his organ meats. He does not like beef liver unless I hide it in his ground turkey. Pork is not a favorite of his. He will eat neck bones I havent tried hocks yet but I will. And the only veggie he will eat now is tomato's mixed with unsweetned apple sauce. With this dog I think he is just by nature picky. He was picky with kibble and now he is picky with raw. My mom will be comming up when the weather gets nicer and she is bringing all kinds of goodies for the dog, necks, neck bones, tounge etc.... You gotta love those GRANDMA's ;D

Amyjo...anyone...on the Yahoo lists, choose the individual e-mail option when you sign up. Then you will get the em's to your personal em address. I can't read the posts on the yahoo group site and make any heads or tails out of them!!! I get so confused and frustrated. It's real easy with the individual em's, you can reply just like a reg. em etc., and the only drawback is a lot of em's to delete every day. Ann and I just found out on the list we shouldn't be feeding ground meats, didn't we Ann. It makes sense though, because it's much better for the dog to rip and tear the meat off the bones himself, rather than have the meat ground up for him. Guess my dogs got their last ground turkey meal tonight. ;D Even an old dog like myself can learn new things and I trust the ones telling me these things, because they have been at it for years...some 10 years and longer.

I gotta tell you - this is the reason I put off switching to raw for so long. It is very frustrating that among the folks that agree raw is best there is still alot of disagreement. (Not to mention the people who will tell you raw is bad). I just want to do the best for my dogs - It is hard at this point to know what that is.... I am not going to stop because I am so happy with the results but I just wanted to whine a little. Okay - I am done now BTW...pigs feet are a HUGE hit here at my house!

They say ground meat right now is about the only unsafe beef to eat right now in the US because of the whole mad cow thing going on. Apparently the brain and the spinal column is the only thing that can infect you... I'm not so sure I like knowing thats part of what I'm eating when I eat a hamburger

Yep Brooke - I wouldn't even feed ground beef to my dogs right now. ( I am using ground turkey every third day) but back to the whole mad cow thing.....There is someting called "automatic meat recovery system" or some such thing - and the processing plants are using it to strip the cow bones (including the spinal cord) of every last itty bitty piece of meat and that is how spinal fluid and pieces of brain get into your hamburger. Now supposedly this process has been halted for the time being because of mad cow - but I am not sure I believe it.
I am lucky I can still get ground sirloin from a local store that grounds thier meat in store from primal cuts. It makes me feel alot better. It's way too expensive to feed to the pooches though as much as I love 'em!

Yeah. No kidding! I am amazed at the amount of money people invest in some kibble. Life's Abundance for example. I'm sure its top of the line but I still wonder with all the stuff I read about kibble. $80 not including shipping is utterly rediculous! I don't care if its made out of caviar and lobster no kibble is worth that.

I just can't believe there are people willing to pay that for their dog. I mean I love my dog and all and I want to feed them as healthy of food as possible but COME ON!!! ..There is NO REASON this dog food has to be this expensive.

I can buy whole organic free range chickens cheaper than that (I feed my dogs normal chicken but its the point) seriously...and if that food is so darn good...why need the supplements???
