Have any of you guys seen this? www.thedogisland.com They have built a sanctuary for dogs to live "free". They liken dog ownership to slavery and are actively recruiting people to turn over thier dogs as the ulitmate act of love! They say even if your beloved pet gets killed in a pack fight - its okay because it is "natural". This site is so bizarre - I almost think it is a joke... somebody pinch me because I just can't believe it!

I just saw that site yesterday...I couldn't believe what they say. They say that its cruel to keep your dog in your home or in "captivity" as they call it.
They also that if you bring your dog there you probably shouldn't come to see it.....because it won't want to see you because your dog will hate you because of the cruel years of "captivity" it spent with you!
Its awful what they say!!!

Just when you think you've seen and heard everything..... I don't know about all of you, but I can't wait to set my dogs free on the island!!! Isn't the idea of getting a dog in the first place is because you want it to live with you and be your companion? Well, if anyone is looking to *GET RID* of their dog, I guess this is a place to do it and not feel quilty, because you are actually setting it free to live like it is supposed to live. People are getting sicker every minute.

That is truly the most bizarre thing that I have ever seen. I guess they forgot about the centuries of domestication. That is just nuts. They don't want you to ever see your dog because it hates you... that is so stupid it is funny. Hmmm. Maybe it is a ploy by puppy millers to get more breeding dogs. Who would know what dogs come in and what dogs go out.

Is this crap for real??? These folks are about stupid! Did ya see the directions to the place? "Getting to the island is not particularly easy. Considered part of US Minor Outlying Islands, we are most easily accessed by departing from the coast of Tallahassee, Florida, where our office is. Because of recent threats from anti-freedom activists, we've had to make our land office a maze to get to. However, if you would like to come visit us, come to Tallahassee, and look up all the dog grooming professionals in town. Arrange their names alphabetically, and then you'll see that their names relate in a way with the street names of downtown Tallahassee. When you realize this pattern, start at "A" and go through "W" each time marking your way with a piece of red tape on the door. We will be watching and will approach you and your dog if you appear correct. You will then need to arrange with a Dog Island representative to pick you up on a boat that will take you and your dog on a beautiful 3 hour boat ride to the island." What's this about?Someone needs to look into this.I was reading some of the stuff on there, they feed the dogs by letting them eat rabbits, grasshoppers, etc. Bulls***!And what about this: "We apologize to not offer this to poor people but it takes an enormous amount of money to afford this type of beauty. If you are very rich, and think you might want to visit the island." I just wonder if this is for real, maybe someone needs to report this to animal cruelty,ya think? Sherree

They are selling this "empathy leash" so you can let your dog walk you and learn what it is like to be "humiliated" in public. I'm gonna get right on that and order one TODAY! This has to be a hoax. People can't really be that stoopud.

Well - thank heaven above for that! It is a very realistic hoax...I came accross the page doing a search for dog bite statistics and there it was - they have advertisers and everything ....including one that says "get your dog to listen to you everywhere you go!" I am not sure if the believability of the hoax is more a comment on the gullibility of some people or the stupidity of others.

Oooo, and speaking of Mr. "Get your dog to Listen to you", he's in the middle of getting a divorce, are any of you surprised ? How long did they make it, a year ?

No wonder he became more *wacko* than usual. Things were not going well at home! I'm glad the Dog Island is a hoax, but I believe people are crazy enough to do something like this.

Put it in a post, used it as an excuse as to why he was too busy to respond to people personally . "I'll take your money, you gullible saps, but don't even THINK of asking ME a question ."

Just one point here...while the internet is a wonderful place to learn and explore, it does open the doors to many smoke and mirror sites...those that seem to good to be true and those that the word bizarre just barely describes....
Like everything else in life, take it for what its worth and if the price is too high (or too rediculous in this case) walk away....
