This is so sad.
I know you said she was extremely healthy up to this, but do you know if she was on any meds etc., for instance, like the Duramax for arthritis?
I find it hard to believe that in a perfectly healthy dog this would just happen out of the blue and I feel it has to have been caused by medication, getting into something toxic, or vaccinosis etc.

Oh Sibemom - Tell your friend I am so sorry for her loss. I really feel for her - and the sudden/unexpectedness makes it really tough to deal with.

That is sad news indeed....I hope everyone there finds some peace over the days to come and they can find some comfort in remembering the wonderful years they had with Sophie...
This is probably not the way they thought things would work out, but like humans, tragedies and unexpected events do happen to our dogs too and those left behind get to sort out what, why and how it happened.
There is probably more to learn as to why it happened (as Loey said or even an undetected medical problem), but then again, this could be one of those events that may never be understood.....it was just Sophies time to cross the bridge....her owners are in my thougths and prayers...

That is very sad. My heartfelt sympathies to your friend. I also wanted to add that strokes are often called the silent killer because there aren't often signs of a problem until it happens. It could be from hypertension or a blood clot from trauma or disease. Cancer causes blood clots too. Of course there are many other things that can cause it as well. My point is that sometimes there aren't signs and I hope your friends aren't blaming themselves for missing something. It is very sad.

Your right there were no tell tail signs in this case. She was on no meds what so ever. When she was 1 year old though she got hit by a car and suffered some soft tissue truama. Who knows. She is going looking for a pup because he other dog is very depressed. I told her to check the shelters and the rescue's. Tried to talk her into checking HUSKY RESCUE ;D no success

Yes it was hard for her. The vet was so nice he even sent her a sympathy card and 1 long stem rose. That was just so sweet. I told her to take her time about picking out another dog, because you can't compare the new one to the friend you just lost.
