No doubt, I love all dogs, but certain breeds really make me feel all warm and tingly Aside from the breeds that I own, I absolutely love: Bernese Mountain Dogs Briards Anatolian Sheperds All Northern breeds St. Bernards Dogo Argentinas Dobermans GSD's So, tell me... What breeds interest you?

Hmm, top of the list, a GSD, then Sibes, Keeshonds (I like the Spitz group, can ya tell ;D?), but I also love Greyhounds, such gentle dogs, Weims, for their beautiful velvet silver color, and herding dogs, Corgis, Border Collies (smartest, but most hyper damm dogs I've ever seen ), and while I'm not a huge fan of small dogs, there's something about a Norfolk Terrier that I like ;D.

Well, ok, you know I'm hooked on GSD's...always have been, always will be...
I look at it this way; I wanted a breed of dog that is intelligent and has the ability to think for themselves, loyal to a fault and at the same time, just look darn handsome!! (personal thought there). He demands a lot from me and I demand a lot from him...we work well together.
So, given my attitude above, if I had to choose another breed as well, I'd probably go with the Sibe/Husky line only because of their looks and attitudes and with these types of dogs, you earn their respect as alpha (Ann, Laura correct me if I'm wrong here) and thus, you do need to know your stuff getting one of these dogs.
As an afterthought, I'd probably also look at the malinois or the belgian shepherd breeds too if that was an option.

Hmm, hard to narrow it down to favs. . . . . I like any good representative of a breed, as long as it still able to perform the function it was bred for, or at least looks like could.
That said, I'd nominate:
Gun dogs - Retrievers, Irish Setters and Springer Spaniels
Working Dogs - German Shepherds, Dobermans, Huskies
Hounds - Ridgebacks are fabulous. At least I attribute Finn's good points to his alleged Ridgy side. English Foxhounds look groovy.
Herding dogs - a Blue Heeler/Cattle Dog or a Kelpie.
(Here in Australia we call Border Collies brilliant idiots. All brain and no common sense ;D)

I think Afghan hounds are absolutely GORGEOUS but I know they are pretty aloof and stubborn

Yes they are PRETTY but I have been told they can be a tad aggresive and not much for brains. High maintenence coats to, but pretty to look at

I've heard that too about their aggressiveness. I don't think I've ever heard a news story about them though amazingly enough as much as I hear about their aggression tendencies... I don't think they are a very popular breed in the US though. I've never seen one in person. I would love to though. It may just be more to do with how they are raised. Just like a pit has tendencies they need to be raised with a firmer hand to come out right in the wash.
