That's Blade, one of the dogs that had leptospirosis, he and two others were the worst out of sixteen, he cost a grand total of 4000 bucks to get better . He's no longer a pet, he's an investment ;D.

Laura - I didn't think Lepto was such a big deal... I mean I knew it was icky but I thought more easily treatable than that. Is it because he went untreated so long before he was rescued?

I am with you Amyjo. I didn't think it was a $4000 condition either. He is a beauty though and worth every penny.

Unfortunately, the outbreak wasn't caught fast enough, and Lepto is tough to diagnose (titers can pick it up a bit better). Poor Blade, by the time the vet called it, he started to go into renal failure. I've never seen a dog so jaundiced . So a 9 day critical care hospital stay, several blasts of amoxi for 2 weeks, and now a final course of doxycycline added up to about 4 grand. He will have to be tested for the next six months to make sure all renal functions are ok, but from what I've seen, I think he's recovered nicely, he pees like a racehorse about 20 times a day ! This is what he looked like the day he came home from the hospital, it wasn't pretty .

Any dog named Blade is worth at least $4000. Poor boy I am so glad he made it through. A husky is a terriable thing to waste ;D
