Well as most of you know I am a Horse Woman along with being a dog person, mom, Black Belt etc... When I moved here I left a very important part of my life in the country and that was my last two Arabian's. I sold them to my friend who has a ridding stable, because I knew they would at least get to do what they loved and that is "Work". My mare as much as I tried would not keep a breeding, she would show positive on a preg test and then when it was time for the ultrasound there was NO BABY. I gave up as her age was getting up there and to be a first time mom even though she was healthy I felt it was to much to ask of her. Well she just turned 22 this past January and my, we will call her FORMER friend, just called me to tell me that she died giving birth . Obviously she is keeping a stallion out in the pasture with the rest of the herd I am devistated, she also told me that my BIG BEAUTIFUL BLACK gelding got sick 2 weeks ago and also died is it me or does something sound a little strange here. You call me after the fact when one dies then you dont call me to tell me that my elderly mare is pregnant for the first time? She was suppose to be caring for these animals the same way I did and obviously that was not the case. I just cant beleive this happened. Ansari (my mare) was the best horse anyone could ask for. She was out of Wayne Newtons line of Arabians. She had more ribbons and trophy's did search and rescue, barrels, pleasure, she drove, She was a major part of my life and when I had to sell them it almost killed me. Bo ( my gelding) was trained in Dressage, Speed and Action, Pole Bending and also drove he was the last abuse case I took in. When I got him he was skin over bone. He was 16 hands tall and only weighed 450# that is less than half of his ideal weight. I feel so used and hurt that she took this course of action instead of telling me right away. I called one of my other friends parents who live up there and they told me that things were really bad at the stable. She is in a money crunch and the horses look like CRAP. So here is my dillema I want to call someone. I want to turn her in so bad. Tell me if I am being spitefull, but if those animals look like I think they do then I have to do something. Oconto Co sucks when it comes to animal neglect so I might have to use one of those crazy animal activists that I know from Milwaukee. Calm me down here guys cause right now I am pretty wild. Maybe I should have put this in the other spot for TEMPER TEMPER. Both my horses wiped out in less than a month. There has to be more to it than that. I dont even think she called the vet and I will find out.

That just plain old sucks - I am really really sorry for your loss. That is just terrible what this woman did (or didn't do) to your horses. If it was just a money crunch I can't believe she didn't at least give you a shout and let you know she needed help for thier sake. But take a deep breath and stay cool. Sleep on it before you act. You wont regret that. Once again I am so sorry. Amy

Talking to her will serve no good purpose because she is the double talker of all time. Shortly after I sold her Ansari and Bo things started getting strange. I use to train all of her young stock for trail and after we moved I only got up there MAYBE once a month. I noticed changes in my two along with some of the others. I talked to Kelly (thats her name) and never got straight answers. I have some good friends up there that kept on eye on things but it was never bad enough to get the law involved. My friends dad is going up there and take some pictures I am going to try and get up there this Saturday, and if it looks like I think it will heads are going to roll. My friends dad also told me that he found out why Ansari died. The foal was breach and she went into labor during the night out in the pature. This stupid FREAK of a horse owner did not put her in the barn even though she knew she was this close to delivery. He also told me that Bo got sick from moldy hay. This was the horse the was not suppose to be eating hay he was allergic to it and he was suppose to be on a pelleted diet. Obviously going to the bar and sleeping with every man in town is more important than taking care of her animals. Excuse me I am still really HOT Virgil (that is my friend dad) works for the town so he is my information source. She is going to pay for this dont know how yet but she will pay.

The deal that was made and Thank God it is in writting was this: If at anytime she could not afford to take care of them in the manner that they were use to, she was to call me and my friend Sue (Virgils Daughter) would buy them from her at the same price I sold them to her. She was also not allowed to sell them to anyone except back to me or Sue. Sue lives on the other side of Green Bay and has horses. This was a contract that she willingly signed and my Attorny is the one that drew it up. He is out of town untill next week but when he gets back he will start things rolling. Kelly has been my friend (so I thought) for over 15 years. I got her going in the stable biz. I trained almost all of her horses. I saved her from going to jail once because of an involvement with this guy named Erv Stabbani who sold dogs to the mungs for food (thats a whole story in itself) WHY? I feel sick.

Hi there....
I can't imagine how you are feeling....the loss, sadness and most of all probably a sick feeling that someone you trusted screwed you over.....when you trust something as important as your kids, dog or in this case horses, to someone to take care of, you expect that person to do the best they can by your kid, dog, horse ect. Any less than that (as is in this case) and you feel like someone sucked the wind out of your lungs by a kick to the gut....
But as amyjo said, feelings of anger, revenge and remorse aside, take some time and plan how you are going to sort out this gross miscarrage of trust. Its good to see that there is some legal documenation in place so take your time and plan your strategy wisely. Its the cool calm thinker that accomplishes most in this world and right now, you're still sitting at 240psi on the head pressure....vent it out then get the gameplan going with your lawyer and check your options.
There is no changing what happened and you will eventually come to accept that fact but for now, just know that you will get to the bottom of what happened in due course. Take it one step at a time.
-Richard

As always Richard you are right. I have gone through a whole box of tissue, and now I am starting on the second. It was funny I had just not to long ago told Loey that this spring we should go up there and go horseback riding. I told her about those two wonderful creatures and said we would have a great time. I know deep in my heart that it's not my fault but the sad reality of it is I should have watched her better. I thought with that contract in place it was a safety net to provide for their care. I havent told the boys yet I know they are going to be quite upset. I am just trying to remember the good things right now and there are many. I will regain my senses slowly and do the right thing. Thanks ;D

Ann, I am so sorry, and if this is the stable I am thinking of, there have been *rumors* floating around for quite awhile, right? Animal cops, Houston all over again! As Richard said, it's good you have everything in writing, but as the saying goes...*you can't get blood out of a turnip*, either, but after you cool down, I would sure as heck try, and would start by wringing her stupid neck (legally, of course!!!! ) This kind of gross negligence infuriates me!!

Oh wow Ann! I am so sorry! I know its really easy to get attached to horses. I can't even imagine....
I am soooo sorry. This infuriates me too. That horse was a bit old to be breeding her anyway. I hope this woman gets slapped by the law...I really have my fingers crossed for you. :shake:

The stable is Mountain Meadows and yes there have been some rumors for awhile. The one that I got closed down was called Ray's Riding Stable. She use to be partneres with him and I got her out before things got ugly. In fact Ray's is starting up again and they are right down the road. I will take care of this and NO I will not go up and kick the crap out of her she is no challange so it would be no fun

I have another thought. There is a man near Antigo who was in the search and rescue group I belonged to I just have to remember his last name. He ran horses at Mackinac Island in the summer his first name is Neil and he is also an animal abuse investigator. He was the one who aided in shutting down Ray's. I don't even know if he is still around. I am going to talk to my former fairrier Gene Weed and get some info. He to has said to me that the horses are just not looking very good. What is that guys last name? Ok now I have to think. It will come to me.

Well here I am up for work after very little sleep and my mind is still spinning. I have calmed down a little but not much. I called my friend Sue and she will be going up there today acting as if she knows nothing about what happened. She has some thoughts on this matter that I never considered. She thinks that what Kelly told me was not true. She thinks that Kelly might have sold them and is using this story to cover it up. Well in a way that would make me happy BUT also would put more worry in my head. Out of all the 45+ horses that she has these two would bring her a great price if she needed money and would be the easiest to sell because of their breeding and training. Sue said her dad called the mink farm and they never made a trip out there to pick up a dead horse since this past summer. So if they did die what did she do with them There is only one place that picks up downed or dead animals in the area. I will find out . If this is the case then she is in more trouble than she could imagine.
