When we got my puppy Rosie quite some months ago, we thought our 10-year-old dog would be jealous of all the attention Rosie would get. It turned out to be the other way around. Whenever I try to even pet my older dog, my younger one freaks out and starts licking the other dog's face like crazy, so it's hard to pay attention to both. I feel bad and need help finding a way to help or fix this problem. Thanks ============ Stuffed Animals

You have the right to give affection to one dog without the other. First step would be to start nothing in life is free, particularly with the younger dog. (See link upper right)
You should be able to use leadership through movement to make the younger dog stay back and not annoy the older dog.
You can practice by putting both dogs in a sit stay facing you, and alternate between them with treats. The dog only gets a treat if they sit quietly and don't mess with the other dog. When they have that exercise down pat, change to alternate dog petting.
Have you done any training of either dog? How much time to the dogs spend alone together and how much time do you spend with each dog individually?

I think equal treatment is the key. I'm also afraid of jealousy that's why I never adopted another dog. I'm afraid I may not give them equal treatment.

I think deal with a jealous dog is dangerous task for you. I think you have to first prepare your self for it so you can be ready for this task. Otherwise when you first time see the jealous dog, you will worried and never do the job more consciously.
