Thursday was the 4th birthday of Odie, one of three dogs that comes into the office. Just to have a laugh, one of my co-workers staged a party for him, with special lunch bowls for the dogs and a candle in Odie's for him to blow out.
We all gathered in the hallway in a circle with Odie in the middle to sing Happy Birthday to him. Before this, I had been joking around in the kitchen, and "taught" Tarot the words of the song. I sang "Arf arf arf-arf arf-arf" and Tarot barked along. Just a joke, really.
Well, when everyone started singing 'Happy Birthday to you', Tarot barked right along. The amazing thing was, she got the timing and cadence right. She really was barking "Arf arf arf-arf arf-arf". She matched every word. Perfect. I wish we had filmed it.
She brought the house down. Everyone was laughing so hard we struggled to finish the song. In Australia, the custom is to say 'Hip Hip Hooray' three times at the end of the song. Each time we said Hip Hip, Tarot barked on the Horray. I was pretty much crying with laughter.
If I had trained her for six months, she couldn't have done it better. I'd enter her into Australian Idol, except that she has limited range and her pitch is rubbish.

I guess the pitch of your voice (and your coworkers) hit the right note with Tara!!
