I'm new here, I did a Google search and found your forum. I was looking for an openminded forum with nice smart people. I've read a bit and like what I read. My partner and I have one, soon to be two, Italian greyhounds and two charming black cats. We are learning clicker training, which is pretty fun, and have started feeding raw. Nice to have found you~

We've only had our It. greyhound yr. old male for a few weeks and he has aggression/dominance issues which were unwittingly being aggravated by our behavior. Cesar Millan's book "Cesar's Way" has been very helpful in teaching us the importance of being the pack leader 24/7 and being calm and assertive. Thru this forum we found the Leerburg website-with it's similar point of view. I'm planning on getting his puppy training- 8 weeks to 8 mo. DVD so we can start the new pup out much better than we did with our yr. old.
The clicker training is training me more than my dog at this point. I don't think it's gotten thru to our dog what it is all about because I don't always have it handy when training simple commands, and I'm not always on time, but it is sure teaching me to get accurate on praising the right moment when I do use it.
I think it also helps me to focus. Just as, when one is comfortable playing guitar, one does not think of fingering positions, as I'm getting used to using the clicker, I am able to think ahead quicker to the next step and also not need to speak the praise. Our working together becomes more non-verbal and intuitive, it seems to me.
I may not use it for long but it has proved handier than I actually expected it to. Thanks for the welcome!

Welcome I read that you bought Ceasar Milans book, that's great, he does offer some very simple to follow ideas for dog owners and I am sure as you have read it's not the dog he is training it's the People The Leerburg video is OK, but I guess if you have Cesars book you really do not need the video from Ed. Ceasar also has a DVD out that might be a better purchase, certainly not knocking what Ed has to offer but I can tell you it's nothing EARTH SHAKING I am curious though why you choose to do clicker training? Just curious as I always am when people choose that method If it is working for you GREAT but like I said JUST CURIOUS again Welcome to RB TONS OF FUN TO BE HAD HERE ;D

Welcome to the board!! ;D Greyhounds are so great! They are the sweetest things. I did a test once to see what kind of breed temperament I'd do well with. Greyhounds and italian greyhounds were on it but I'd be so afraid I'd break them. I'm so used to big dog brute dogs. Can't wait to hear more about you guys!

Welcome to the forum. I've been here a very short time but the great people here have really helped me understand my situation with my dog and I have gotten the whole undesireable behavior almost completely under control. They are great, listen to them........

Hi- I've been really busy with a sick family member so hadn't been back here for a while. We have our pup now- What a sweet wonderful lovable bundle of fun! To answer an earlier question, I choose clicker training really out of curiosity- it seemed a helpful possibility with a small sighthound. They are very independent and have a great sense of joyfulness so it seemed it might make it more fun and help keep their attention. And it does. And then, it has been more useful to me than I expected. I always like to try out new things to see what I think. I did change my mind about that training dvd ~I didn't agree with every aspect presented- I rarely do tho- I'm an opinionated one. I am just using Cesar's way and don't know of any disagreements I have with him at all (shock!). It is working very well indeed. I love this breed to pieces- so winning and conscious! I always feared their fragility too but I am not worried much now- just very careful where I step, etc. Thanks for the lovely welcome!
