Dog Limit Part Proposed Animal Control Ordinance
Wichita Falls, TX
Dog lovers listen up, because the city may have a bone to pick with you. People who have four or more dogs may soon be in violation of the city's new animal control ordinance.
This is just one of many proposed changes to the city's animal control ordinance. It's been more than a decade since the city has made any changes.
The current ordinance states that a household can have up to four dogs and cats in any combination.
Owners can get a pet fancier's or hobby breeders permit if they want more. But under the proposed ordinance, people can still have 4 animals, but no more than three of them can be dogs. And the proposal would eliminate the pet fanciers and hobby breeder’s permits in favor of a stricter kennel permit.
But there are some exceptions.
You're excluded if you now legally have four dogs, meaning they're current with their vaccinations and are licensed. Also excluded are veterinary facilities, as well as kennels.
The city says the changes stem from noise problems -- dogs barking too loud, as well as owners not cleaning up after their pets.
It's important to note that nothing is official. These are just proposed changes. Here's a tentative schedule for moving the draft forward.
On February 17th, the Health Department staff will do an informal presentation of the draft to the city council. Then on February 27th the Health Department will take their draft to the Board of Health.
On March 2nd the proposal will be a regular agenda item at the city council meeting.

Just one more law making it difficult for people to get involved with rescue and fostering .

Exactly. I think the laws should have exemptions built in. I think they should state that you may own up to x number of dogs but when you are fostering or involved in rescue those particular dogs should not count towards you limit. I know here I would only be able to foster 1. I feel as long as you keep the dogs area's clean, keep the noise down there should not be an issue. I have a wonderful basement, dry, warm and very brite it would be a great place to have several dogs along with the excersise area outside in my yard but I am restricted. DAMN THEM
