Show-scene people have gotten on my last nerve. I've been told by some that I should show Ripley, because showing in conformation is the only way to know if the dog is truly worth breeding. I had a somewhat similar experience, talking to a Papillon breeder. I told her that since Ripley has a couple minor faults, I won't be showing him in conformation, but I'm going to put Obedience and Agility titles on him before I even think about breeding him. Well, this lady acted like I was the destroyer of all things warm and fuzzy, and told me that I was irresponsible and not in it for the good of the breed if I was going to breed "An unsuitable creature". IMHO, a good, stable working dog with good health and genetics will greatly improve the breed, regardless of whether the muzzle is heavy. (Which is Ripley's case) But, of course, most show people don't get that. Grr. I don't mean to offend anyone who shows their dogs, but elitist show snobs like that really shouldn't own dogs if all they can appreciate about them is their show titles.
