Okay I had Zeus & Apollo with me today at the local petsmart.... I saw a lady who had a beautifull GSD. I polietly asked where she got her dog, and asked the usual questions. Well she came back & said Zeus was a "Crossbred Curr of a Shepherd" Wanna know why? His back doesn't slope I'm like he's what a Shepherd should look like, not these hip displaced dogs that are out in the ring. Then she went after Apollo Calling him an aggersive beast. I'm like yea right, an aggersive beast who wants a belly rub. It pissed me off to no end. No, Zeus is not AKC regiestered, neither is Apollo I never bothered with it. I don't see the point if they're going to be just pets.

Snob is too good a word for that woman. Perhaps this is an extreme viewpoint, but I'm starting to think the breeders of any breed that push the AKC standard to the point of genetic instabilty in the name of ribbons should be prosecuted for animal cruelty.
Look at German Shepherds that can barely limp around a ring, Bulldogs that have heads so big they can't be born naturally, Pekanese 75% of which have congenital eye problems . . . I could go on but I won't. Name a breed, there's a health defect created by the drive for a Standard Perfect specimen.
In Australia, there's only one breed remaining that doesn't have any known breed related health faults, and that's the Kelpie. They are still a working dog where what the dog does is more important that how long it's muzzle is . . . but it's only a matter of time.
IMHO, before long most breeds will split into Show dogs and Working dogs - like the already GSD has, although few show people will admit it.
And where does she get off passing judgment about Apollo's temperament - unless he was chewing her leg off at the time, she's just an idiot.

These are the types of people that I can not tolerate. We had them at the kennel club, in fact that was one of the reasons Blade and I left. I choose not to have Blade registered too. It was not important to me, because if we would ever compete it would be just for fun. I would always get approached by this one woman who would pick him apart right from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail. She would say OH HIS TAIL IS TO LONG or OH HIS BODY IS TO LONG or some other crap that had nothing to do with what my dog were accomplishing and anyway I never asked her opinion she owned some kind of high priced King Charles Spaniel that was very ill behaved and I thought he was kind of ugly for his breed. I think people who make these comments have an awful lot of problems with in their own breeding Idiots is a very good word to describe them

came back & said Zeus was a "Crossbred Curr of a Shepherd" My brain is mush from the ongoing battles with the idiots next door....what is a Crossbred Curr of a Shepherd....?? While we're on the subject, what the he!! is a Curr? Honestly, some people exude such stupidity when they talk like that you just can't help but think: LOSER FROM LOSERVILLE, POPULATION ONE----->YOUI feel sorry for the GSD that he's got an idiot for an owner who can't even say his lineage properly.....geesh, "A Curr Shepherd"....ahhh, Curr this ya weenie!!!! -Richard

Believe me I was like what I think she was a wacko peronally But it still bothers me that she called my boy a crossbred, when I saw mom, shortly before mom died. And I have pics of dad, both are GSD's with no slant. I'll keep my "Curr Shepherd" thank you very much, he's alot more valueable as the pet his then a show dog. I'm hopeing to get him in on a frisbee dog program, he can fly for that disc.

To me, what a dog does outside of a conformation ring is the true "test" of a dogs breeding, wether purebred or not....not prancing around a ring, looking like it would rather be anywhere but there and being judged by (whom?) Just people who have decided this is the way the breed should look!! It is so degrading to any self respecting dog!

I agree! I mean do you think that the poodles really want to look like dweebs witht the frilly hair cuts. I imagine they want to be out rolling in something nice & smelly insted of pranceing around like some dolled up beauty king/queen. Apollo & Zeus both do all things Doggie!! They go wadeing in the creek, roll in the dead fish, chase the squierls in the backyard, they get to be dogs, not pagent contestents. And when they come in muddier then he!! I just laugh, they're doing what they love.

Are Willow's Ears up yet?? It took Zeus forever to get his up, they'd come up, and fall over again, but look at them now. They're HUGE!!! He's going to be a large GSD, I can see that allready. Heck daddy was close to 120 lbs So Zeus is so going to be a big boy. And boy does he eat.

Rocky is German GSD...he comes from Ch stock on his mom and dads side ....his back is not sloaped, he's got great hips (strong and wide) and he's solid from head to toe (as Zeus sounds like) and he is an excellent example of the breed.....
He's CKC registered but you know something, that wasn't the reason I got him like that.....his parents were beautiful, well mannered, stable temperments and very sociable....the breeder did a great job and I love my sheppy...he's balanced and handsome and smart, black and tan.......ahhhh I could go on here...
....and what does all this mean?
Glad you asked....it simply means as a GSD owner, I knew what I wanted, I found a breeder who breeds dogs to the working standard and has quality built into the process...what I got was Rockford and I am sooooo lucky we chose him. The fact he is CKC registerd is minor in comparison to what he means to me as my dog and what he means to our family as a member.
Putting lables on things so you can make someone feel inadequate is just the sign of a pathetic person.
If someone like that lady ever came up to me and started dissin' my dog, I guess I would just call her some name (parasite maggot is a good one for starters) and consider her un-informed as to the breeds standards. Nothing more shows people's ignorance then when they comment negatively on something they have no knowledge about...this one sounded like she fit in that catagory for sure.
gsdrottie, you did good not sicking your dogs on that stupid women, Lord knows what desieses she may of had....one of them being ignorance for sure...!!!

Nope she is only 8 weeks old today so it will be awhile. She to will be a big girl not quite as big as I think Zeus will be but probably around 85 to 90#'s. Like with what Richard said I checked out people who have this breeders dogs and they all gave me great reports, most of them work their dogs in SAR and several have trained them for service work. Backs are straight brains are good and tempermants are sound. Papers have never been important to me, although it is nice to check their ancestry alot of times that does not mean JACK. It is what you put into the dog that matters

That was good, and kind of inspirational. I'm going to put that slogan on a t-shirt and wear it when I'm instructing. The Blue Mountains Dog Training Club is the referral club for the local RSPCA, and most rescues rock up at least a few times.
