I don't know if any of you short bussers remember the problems I had with the next door neighbours here on one side last year.....if not, the wife has a nose that is overly sensitive and no brains to boot. Last spring, they made it a point to harass us about picking up Rocky's droppings quite often and it got to the point where it was outta control.
Well, I spent the rest of the year, all through the winter and all through this spring picking up after Rocky...our backyard in our townhouse is spotless...
Well today, I come home and the twits are out in their backyard...well there is one Rocky dropping from 5am this morning and he opens the gate and starts giving me CRAP about it...I tell him the backyard has been cleaned all year and I was out there picking it up now. He didn't listen, just kept saying its been there for 2 days (what a f*ckin' lier!!!) and that I should take my dog someplace else for him to do his business!!!
I tell him, that is impossible and I'll continue to keep the backyard as clean as possible. I pickup daily, water it down daily and I don't know what else to do...these people are whacked!!
Anyway, we live in a condo townhouse complex so I have sent the property manager a letter complaining about the harassment from these people. I will not tolerate another summer of this CRAP!
Here is the email (almost in its entirety)
I am writing to you in regards to a situation that has become extremely frustrating and I am running out of options on how to deal with this. What I am writing about are the neighbours next door to us in Unit #12. They moved in about a year and a half ago (they bought from the original owner). We get along with most people here and we work even more to be nice with our neighbours on either side of us. Sadly, the residents in #12 are making this chore somewhat difficult - they are starting to go over the line with their requests and expectations. As you are aware, we have a dog. He has been trained to use the backyard. Ever since these new neighbours moved in next door, they've made it a point to tell me to pick up after my dog on a regular basis - they come to our door, talk over the fence ect...I clean up after my dog daily. I rinse the area often. I was out almost every day this past winter picking up after my dog. I don't know what more they want. Today, I was told to have my dog do its business somewhere else. I told them that is not possible and I will continue to clean up after my dog as best I can. My neighbours on the otherside in unit #10 don't smell anything (and they spend a great deal of time outside), so I have no idea why are they (residents of #12) are harassing us all the time. The wife has some sort of problem with her nose. She seems to smell everything. To me, they are living in the wrong area - when the Canada Pork Plant is moving their pigs around, this whole area smells like pig. When the wind is from the east, we get the smell of the refinery blowing through our house. Also, there are dozens of factories within a 1/2 kilometer radius, including an asphalt plant, that add to the smell around here. The supposid smell from my backyard cannot be the only cause of her misery. They confronted me today and said they cannot even put their table on the deck due to the smell from my dog! At that point I just shut the gate between us and walked away. I do not intend to spend a summer having to put up with this type of behaviour. While I know there may not be much you can do (since we're dealing with people with some very unrealistic expectations), I thought I would advise you of the situation as it currently stands. My dog will continue to use the backyard, I will continue to clean it up. End of story. Thanks for your time.
If anyone else has any ideas about how else to handle this, jump in. I am ready to move away from these idiots...I am also tired of having to change my life and my home for every kook who has some problems...whatever happen to sucking it up and making the best of things eh?

How frustrating this must be for you. The only thing I can think of is to continue picking up every day (so they can't get pictures of several piles) and take a look at your local laws. My area has a law which requires that you pick up after your dog on the street and also that you keep your yard picked up if your dog goes there, which you are doing. In other words, the law implicity allows pooping in the yard or there would not be a provision which speaks of cleaning it up. So assuming that you have a law, just tell them you are abiding by the law and you don't want to hear another word out of their stupid mouths. End of story. Also, this may sound stupid, but start keeping a diary of when you pick up and when you wash down the yard. That way, if this comes to a legal issue, you will have this proof of your efforts and compliance with the law.

Richard, you're a better man than I, my friend, because I would have taken Rockford's finest pile, put it in a paper bag and set it on fire on the guys front stoop . But that's just me ;D, evil, nasty old wench that I am. Nicki's right, make a log of pickups and cleaning, and for good measure, videotape the yard on a daily basis, 10 minutes in the morning, and the same at night. It's not like you're leaving piles of it around to finely age , and how bad can really smell from one dog? I have anywhere from 2 to 5 dogs here, and not one of my neighbors have EVER said a word to me. When you have enough evidence, call the police and hit HIM with a harassment charge. Do it often enough and just maybe THEY"LL move ;D. Actually, I think this may be a job for AMYJO, SUPER SH*T SLINGER OF THE WORLD!

Ol Sling Poo, Master of all Throwers! Now there is a lady who can teach ya the trade ;D Come out Come out wherever you are girlfren!!! Richard is in "diarr" need of your help! I agree nail him with harrassment charges. Why should you move? You were there first. If he's not happy then he should move his butt right along... We had issues with a landlord not keeping up his end of the bargain as contracted. We video taped the crappy house he was way overcharging for but not keeping up the enormous amounts of maintenance on his end and the attourney we showed the tape to told us that the tape was not relevant unless it had the dates listed in the video during all the video tapings. Just thought I'd throw that out as a bit of what we found but I'd do it definately. I thought that was rediclous in our case but whatever...in this case I definately think it would be a necessity. It's a pretty sad day when you have to keep a diary of your dogs bowel movements.

You are being the bigger person here Richard As I was reading I was thinking Amy should take a trip to Canada Some people are just trouble makers from the get go a no matter what you do to accomidate their pickyness it will never be right. What Nicki said about the "Poop picking log" is a great idea. I would also invite the manager of your complex to come and check out your yard and do a sniff test if he likes. Sounds to me like the wife should be living in a plastic bubble and not a home. I will say you have much more tolerance then I would.

Ok, this probably just fatigue talking, but I would go out and get a bunch of fake plastic dog poops and spread them all over the yard.
I bettcha she still smells them . . . .
And spare a thought for poor Amyjo. Anytime dog *** is mentioned, her name comes up. Not exactly the legacy she dreams of.

Thank you all for your support and tips....I have gotten to the point now that when I scoop Rocky droppings, I go out front (on the way to the garbage in the garage) and proudly announce, "I HAVE PICKED UP AFTER MY DOG IN THE BACKYARD, THEREFORE THERE CAN BE NO SMELL!!".....it gets strange looks from some people, but those who know the situation, understand completly.
Today, Marian got home first...she let the dog out back after the traditional sheppy rush and brush greeting....the two twits where actually waiting outside out back for them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The husband said, "ahem, Richard said he would take Rocky somewhere else to do his business"....Marian replied, "ahem, no he didn't you just weren't listening and furthermore, I'm telling you now to keep your nose on your side of the fence and stop harassing us!!!! (go Marian go!). He then started in on the, "well there was droppings out there for 5 days crap"..Marian said to his face, "you are a lier...that is bull$hit, my husband has been picking up everyday since last May when you first started complaining!"....did I tell you I hate fibbers?
Then the guy says, "I can see this is upsetting you"....ahh, no $hit Sherlock....Marian told him that the conversation was over, there was nothing more to say and that was it. He told her it wasn't over....well, bring it on, cuz we're ready, willing and able....here are a few of the ideas we have in store for them....
Manure in our gardens..there are two of them out in our backyard and if they think Rocky poop smelled, well, wait 'til you get a load a sheep manure up your snoz....
Taking a page from Aussie, how bout we spread tootsie rolls around the backyard...then if someone asks, we just go over and say, "what's the problem?" and pick one up and take a big bite out of it....
Seriously, I will not hesitate to get the Law involved if this continues. It is my backyard, we were here first and I am more consciencious than most when it comes to cleaning and being clean in my backyard. I will not give in to such abusive tactics as what these two are doing.
Next though, I'll just start taking Rocky to poop/pee on the front lawn (we share it with the idiots).....at least it won't be out in the backyard anymore....
-Richard
ps...like Bugs Bunny always said when he got mad enough: "This means WAR!!"
And the bunny was never more right!!

The tootsie rolls are funny!! ;D ;D You should actually do that. And kudos to your wife for standing her ground. My dog goes in my yard and I pick up once a day (he goes twice) and it NEVER smells and my yard is not huge. So I think your neighbors are just your typical neighbors from hell!! They think if they harass you enough you will give in. Well two can play that game. You should tell the husband that you think his wife smells and you would appreciate it if she did not come outside because it ruins your enjoyment of your property. ;D Do you remember I told you ages ago that I had new neighbors that moved in with a pit. Well the dog is the sweetest dog but the people are totally screwed up in the head. I personally have not had a problem because I ignore them but my other neighbors have had a hellish time. And they are so upset like you are because it makes life so stressful. My one nice neighbor goes down the block in the winter with his snow blower to clean everyones sidewalk. Well these new neighbors said to him "I don't want you to touch my property" and then they yelled at the poor guy because he accidently sprayed some snow on their property. And if a leaf blows onto their property when the lawn guys come they come out screaming. My point is that there are alot of really screwed up people out there that unfortunately sometimes move in next to us and you just have to remember that they are not normal and react accordingly...

OK THIS IS GETTING OUT OF CONTROL!!
This evening, when Rocky went out back to go to the washroom, the neighbor in #12 turned the hose on him and scared him away....Marian was out there and told them to knock it off....NOW!
They said they were eating (they were done) and despite putting up privacy lattice and even some of those bamboo mats(so they can't look through) they are still causing problems. Marian went and got the hose and started watering down the plants and got really close a few times to soaking them....she told them, "see, my hose goes far too!!!".
A twist to all of this is the fact that he said he's been talking to another resident in unit #14 - the same people who we told as a Board (when I was a member)to tear down thier ilegal $3000 addition they put on the back two years ago (they're being sued now by the corporation to take it down).
Apparently the neighbour in #12 has had his EMPTY head filled with CRAP by the lady in #14 who's only intention is to start trouble for us by getting him going. Strange enought, this lady in #14 has a dog next door to her in unit #15 who pees and poops out back all the time (haven't seen it since last fall....its only the last few weeks we've been seeing them take the dog for a walk)...is she complaining about the smell from unit #15...doubt it.
Anyway, I fired off another email to the property manager who is returning back from vacation tomorrow...boy won't she be glad to be back eh?
I have basically said these people are obsessed with telling us what to do in our backyard and are now turning the hose on my dog in his backyard and possibly some of it is being started by the whackjob in #14 trying to get back at me. I have asked this situation be resolved ASAP or else I will escalate it to the next level and deal with them on my terms (Police and Lawyers).
Lord help me if I make it through this week......
-Richard
ps: Marian is just going to wait out back and turn the hose on the wife next time she's hanging up her laundry....

That's pretty bad when a dog can't even go in his own back yard!!!! So what if they were eating outside? If a neighbor has a dog and you don't want to see it take a dump while you are eating, look the other way, go inside or MOVE to a complex that does not allow pets! There are a lot of those around. That reminds me of elderly people who live in apt. complexes with children and then complain about the noise the kids in the complex are making. If they don't like it...move to a complex where there are no children. That's why I think it's ridiculous that they can no longer have apt. complexes for seniors only, because it's "discrimination." As we age (cough, cough) we are less tolerant to screaming, crying kids, loud music etc., and the combination just does not mix, but I feel if you choose to live in a complex with kids or pets than you cannot complain!

I would have gotten soooooooo angery if someone did that to my dog just because he was trying to do what comes natural POOP You must be very tolerant because I don't think I would have been able to controll my temper on this one. TURNING THE HOSE ON YOUR DOG OH WHAT A BUNCH OF NUTS I hope the that the maneger does something about these people.

Ok, I'm ready to sling some poo now. I would think 'attacking' your dog with water while he was within your property would have to be an actionable offence of some kind.
Keep taking the "high road" because sooner or later these guys are going to do something you can act on.
