A picture of a beautiful red/wt BC came up on the Petfinder thing, so I clicked on it to read about *Michael*. www.caringaboutthestrays.comI noticed that underneat "Michael" on the large photo it has (similar), and then I started comparing the small photo's. "Michael" is clearly not even a BC! Looks Springer to me, but with a long tail? Well, I sent the Shelter an em telling them Michael clearly was not a BC and they said they know that!!!! Then she says someone said he is a MUENSTERLANDER!? because he is larger than a Springer. I have never heard of that breed, but there are so many new ones all the time who can keep up? That really irritates me though, that they KNOW he's not a BC, but advertise him as such. Or am I just being too picky?

Well they're still calling him a border collie, but the tempting picture of the beautiful dog that is marked "Similar", is very, very misleading. They have pictures of the dog, why post a similation?
And the larger picture of Michael is marked "after playing in water" which is not really helpful in seeing what he looks like.
I agree - looks Springer. But the description they post sounds like a border collie - high energy, very smart, agility etc.
And don't you love the line about him at the dog park?
Clearly these people live in a fantasy world, and I'm not just talking about Florida

Yes, that comment about the *dog park* made my blood boil too! And yes, they say he is a beautiful BC and high energy etc. etc., but Springer's I have known were very high energy too! After I got thinking about it, I wrote a Shelter on Petfinder another time telling them the dog was not the breed they were saying, and I got the same response...."Thank you for pointing that out to us", but I believe that other shelter changed the breed after my email! Like you said...big hearted people who know absolutely nothing about dogs.

Loey - I thought he looked kind of "aussie-ish" myself but I am prolly as cluesless as those people when it comes to breeds....
Do you guys think Gracie is a BC X?... I am just going by what I was told - but would like other opinions - I know her eyes are not BC - but I don't know what they ARE?

Amyjo, you are right about the dog they are calling a BC...he does look more Aussie than BC, but I have seen some BC's I think look more Aussie!! It's really hard to say. Have you ever seen an Aussie with a full tail? The ones I have...only a few, didn't have the beautiful fluffy tail of a BC, but then...some BC's don't have the beautiful fluffy tail either!!! There are so many variations in both breeds, but I think more so in the BC's, than the Aussie's, what do you think?

Your right Loey when breeds are close in looks it is hard to detemine specifics. Amy with Gracie I can tell there is Collie there, and I do see BC but I kind of see Golden also. Color is deceiving with alot of breeds and for myself it is hard with long haired mixes to really see what is in there .

The main way I tell Aussie from BC other than the tail - is Aussie's have much "harder" eyes than BCs and they also have relatively broad, muscular chests and legs...BC's tend toward "dainty"...
