Our neighbors two houses down have a blk Lab named *Coal*. I love him. He's a goofey, friendly, young Lab, and I have know him since he was first brought home.
The first thing his stupid owner's did was install underground fence, and before he was 6 months old, slapped the collar on him and turned him out in the yard. Good thing they were too stupid to tighten up the collar, (as well as being too stupid to train him to stay inside of the fence like you are supposed to do with the underground fence!) Coal just ran right through it, so they scrapped that idea and chained him up.
Very often they just let him out in the yard without anyone watching him and when I take my two for our walk, Coal will come tearing out to greet us, and of course, he will go with us on our walk. When that happens, his stupid owner comes out on his 4 wheeler to get him. The first couple of times this happened, when Coal saw his owner he got all excited and ran over to him. Of course, his stupid owner yelled at him to "get home"!!!! And continued to yell at him all the way home!!!
Poor Coal. My heart is really aching for him tonight, because today he was out again by himself and ran over to us, so happy to see us! He's beginning to be like part of the family! ;D I had Jerky treats in my pocket for my dogs and Coal could smell them, so there was no way he was leaving us! I waited around, hoping stupid owner would see him out by us, but I didn't want to wait all day, and he won't "go home" when you tell him to, so we went on our walk.
Maybe I should take him home when this happens, but I never carry a leash with me plus there's a ditch full of water to wade through etc....and it's their dog and their responsibility, right?
Well, sure enough, we were on our way back and here comes stupid owner on his 4 wheeler...He got about 100 yards or so from us, crouches down and calls Coal. This beautiful previously happy go lucky Lab, immediately drops his head, ears and tail, and starts walking back to stupid owner, who keeps yelling..."GET OVER HERE!" The closer Coal got, the lower his belly got to the ground....he knew what was coming, but he kept going right up to his stupid owner, who immediately starts wailing on him!!!!!!!!!! I started walking as fast as I could, trying to get to them, but with the mud/water I had to take a detour and he was on his 4-wheeler heading home before I could even get within shouting distance!
Of course, if I ever get close enough to the stupid owner I will talk to him, but he's not very friendly and just takes off of his 4-wheeler once he has Coal.
I'm also mad at myself for being too chicken to go knock on his door and try to talk to him.
