I don't know if this is the right place to post this or not. It's just something interesting that happened today and I am wondering what the rest of you would have done under the circumstances.
I was outside grooming my dogs and the neighbor lady came over. In the course of the conversation she said they want to let their dog loose to run out back like mine do, but they are afraid to. Mary then says she really doesn't think Molly is a runner etc. and I said: "Well...you'll never know what she'll do until you try it." I then told her I would take her out to the fields/woods in back and take her leash off.
Mary and Bob just got Molly a couple of months ago from a local shelter. I think she is about 6 yrs. old and I think is BC and possibly husky mix. Very sweet dog and was ob trained before they got her and very obedient, although they have never let her off leash.
Here's what happened: Mary went and told Bob what I said, so he immediately turned Molly loose. All she did was run over by my dogs and when they called her she responded.
I told them I wouldn't just let her loose around here, but would take her out in the fields etc., so that's what we did, except that they didn't walk her out there on leash like I always did at first, with a new dog or foster dog. Even though Molly was sooooooooo happy to be running free, all she did was run down the path and she came back to us every time Mary called her, which was every few seconds! Mary had also brought some cooked chicken along and gave some to Molly every time she came back.
We got out to the first field and started across and Molly took off for the woods and disappeared.
What would you have done?
