And though there are people that think so. I am currently a member at another dog forum where about 2 members have stated that they don't like "ugly dogs". It hit me straight in the heart. I had come to a forum to talk to people that love dogs not that discriminate them. Such people should be never allowed to have dogs but stuffed animals. I haven't got any replies there yet- I know there are nice people there . It is just that I need more positive reactions to this in order to raise my level of confidence in humanity. Pets suffer a whole lot anyways - now I have found yet another reason for them to suffer upon - some are not pretty enough

I've seen lots of ugly dogs. But that doesn't mean I don't like them. Sometimes those are the BEST! I run into a little bull-dog at Pet-Smart semi-regularly. I'm sorry, but he's the ugliest little thing EVER. But he's SOOOOO sweet. His whole butt wags and he tries to jump up on you and he gives the best kisses! His name is Winston . My friend has a peekaneese (misspelled because I'm stupid) mix with 3 legs. THAT dog is U-G-L-Y!! But such a lover! She waits for you to pick her up and put her on the sofa, then she snuggles up next to you takes a big puppy nap. The ones I don't like are the little, untrained tyrants with Napoleonic issues . The nuts-zu (misspelled on purpose ) that chases you down the street while the owner stands in his yard staring at you . My donation to a debate ;D

I love all dogs but some are more appealing to my eye than others...just like people. But I love them just the same. Now if someone doesn't like a dog simply because it is not an attractive dog then I would have issues with that person.

Ioana,
I read your post, and I understand where you're coming from but you gotta realize a few things here:
1. People are people whereever you go...meaning simply cuz you're in a dog forum, doens't mean people are going to change their "views" about anything. Besides, comments like those lead me to believe those types are "shallow people" - not much substance but a whole lot of attitude.
2. Would you really want to be friends (or communicate) with people who don't like "ugly" dogs? What else do they find "ugly"? Perhaps the overweight people or those who have visable disabilities or who drive an old beat up car or who only work at Walmart....ect ect ect...it cuold be that they hold many things in contempt if they don't look the way "they" feel it should...see where I am going here?
If you didn't bump into those two kooks who don't like ugly dogs, then you may bump into someone who doesn't like something else about dogs, cats, people....
Anyway, imho, there is a breed of dog for everyone out there depending on your lifestyle, likes/dislikes of the breeds characteristics(small, large, medium, long hair, shedders, no shedders, runners, sleepers.....) so you can see, if someone wants to say I don't like "ugly dogs"...what does "ugly" really mean...as the saying goes, it's all in the eye of the beholder.
Case in point: there were two little pug dogs up the street from me (they've moved now)....to me, pugs look like they hit a concrete wall at 70 mph face first...that with the drooling, snorting ect...ok, not my favorite dog, but they were a lovable couple of dogs and I know people who love this breed think they're the cutest thing going...I don't but that is me....I won't trash all breeds cuz they don't look right...people see my GSD and think he's a 90lb horse...they don't know his background, training or anything..they just see this large dog....and hate him....I can't do nuthin' about that....I just have a different view of things...
Don't sweat it...if you love your dog, he loves you and anything else anyone says don't mean nuthin'!!

I think Pugs are cute, and I'm not a small dog fan. ;D I also think any dog who is well trained and loves people is BEAUTIFUL, no matter what it looks like on the outside.

All right- first of all, I would like to make something clear about myself - Nicole - I honestly don't have any problem with somebody that believes that some dogs are ugly - I am just afraid that those people might not love their dog in depth - they just want something cute. What if their dog were to get in an accident and not be so cute any more? It won't be up to the "standard" any longer, isn't that correct? I frankly want only what is best for the dogs who cannot defend themselves. I want people to know that there is more beyond the cuteness or ugliness they see - K9Rocky - I understand what your point of view is here. I know that people have likes and dislikes - but I am thinking that when it comes to dogs, for once, a person should go beyond looks. The dogs I have owned, all different, offered me so much - their unconditional loyalty and affection . That is where the beauty lies in my opinion. To be honest with you, I have hardly ever liked a person more or less because of the way they looked. As for dogs I see the *cuteness" some talk about but I know they all have a big heart with a so much devotion to offer This dialogue doesn't have to go any further - I may just have a completely different opinion which I wanted to express. Thank you each one of you for listening and sharing your opinions with me.

I understand exactly what you are saying Ioana. I don't think that here they really get the idea of what you mean because they haven't seen exactly how these people put it...I've known these people for a while now and I think they would feel the same way you do if they saw it. I was going to post a link the other day but I didn't want this forum to turn into a slinging match with that one..
I just joined that forum and there have been a few things that I've seen people say there that didn't sit well with me. I doubt that I really post there anymore. I thought better of that site until the last conversation I've had. They are very close minded and don't really seem to have opinions based on actual experience or knowledge. They seem to just believe what they think is right.
One of those same people (a 16 year old "who's been training since she was 10" and lives in England) said that all dogs with the word bull in their name are ugly dogs bred only for killing....Actually here are some quotes from her.
"lol any things with the word bull in it its p i g ugly lol"
"well yes and no the dogs are bread to kill thats in them so its as much the dog as the owner in england pit bulls are banned totaly and its been good i dont see why any one would want these breeds of dog except to look big they arnt that smart not that loyal nothing to them"
"the only reason people have them is to look big there not the smartest not the fastest not the most loyal so why have them other than to look big i think ban the lot"
So you can see why someone would take offense of some of the things said there...
This 16 yr old told me I didn't know much about dogs or training because I used things such as e-collars and pinch collars on dogs that I felt need them. She said why not train with a clicker and that no one in her country would even dream of using such inhumane training tools. (Mind you we were discussing a dog who bit and snapped at its owner)
Gee and I wonder why the UK is banning breeds.

I thought Nicki put it very well. Yes, there ARE ugly dogs, but if people hate the dog or the whole breed just because they are ugly, then there is something wrong with that person. Isn't that what we all said? I must have missed something too. I think I know what forum you are referring to and I refuse to go there because the majority are stupid, narrow minded people who think they know it all...and most of them are very young with hardly any experience. Who would listen to them anyway, except other's who are just like them. ;D

Thank you for the input, Brooke It was late at night when I posted here and it was right after I had read that young boy telling me again that anything that has bull in its name is ugly. It saddened me. The way he is wording sounds a little strange to me and told him too. I haven't been present in that forum for too long either but I have seen some nice people there. Christine - the moderator is a sweet person and I am sure Dogman (which is also Catman in the cat forum ) - will intervene if necessary. It is a growing forum just like this one. Hopefully we can infleunce this youngster and not be so stubborn! For the dogs' sake ... all pretty all the way

Thank you each one of you for listening and sharing your opinions with me. Ioana, Just to clarify, I think you are probably one of the more loyal and loving dog owners out there today who not only sees the dog from the outside, but understands it's being on the inside...to you, it would appear, dogs have a very deep meaning and play a significant part in your life...indeed, a very honorable attitude in my books. But, let's look at it another way (and sadly the way a lot of people look at dogs) and that is that they're just there...its a dog, what else do you want from it? I feed it lowend kibble, walk it, maybe once or twice a week and keep it out back tied up (see the "it" word a lot?). On this other board we were at, we always saw folks writing about problems with thier dogs, who, if they'd just taken the time to make the dog part of their family, put some honest trianing time into the dog and treated it like a warm, breathing lifeform, they wouldn't of had so many problems...but it was always the dog's fault.....what a load of B.S. that was!!!! Anyway, don't expect that type of behaviour and attitude towards dogs to change anytime soon...as long as you have a visa card and know where the closest pet shop is, anyone can get a dog....and not even know the first thing about what is involved!!!! -Richard
