If your dog can "speak" and "quiet" on command a fun variation on this is counting! Hold a treat in your hand between your thumb and forefinger with the rest of you fingers up - (kinda like the OK sign) Say "speak how many?" wait till the dog speaks three time - if he doesn't then wave the treat around a bit and repeat speak till you get three...then say "quiet" and give the dog a treat and praise. (Elvis does it for treats, Kylie for a frisbee toss). Do this for all the numbers - I started with 1 thru 3. Eventually you can drop the "speak" and the "quiet" and even the treat... The dog will stop barking when you lower your hand. I teach this to all my dogs - it's lots of fun and it really impresses people who don't know any better Kylie can "add" now too and that really freaks people out... same concept you just hold up fingers from two different hands like you would for a child learing to add...and say "three plus two, how many?" and stand there grinning when your little honor student barks five times! Happy training!

That is great! I taught Sunny to bark (actually sing/bark happy birthday with me). The command is a roll of my hands. I am going to teach the counting. In other words they are supposed to bark until you put your hand down (or in my case stop rolling them) right?? How cool!!

That's great! I'm not allowed to teach Coal to bark on command though, my parents are afraid I won't be able to get him to shut back up! I have taught Coal kind of a release on the number Three though! I put a ball down or throw it to him... what i do is have him sit and wait. I go "one" and he gets ready... "two" and he leans forward... "Four" and he lays down after counting a bunch of random/different numbers other than three I finally say three and away he goes after the ball!
