My GSD is 107lbs. I have been told two different things from two different vets. One said that Interceptor 51-100 lbs. is fine and the other, my new vet told me that I need 51-100 lbs. AND 2-10lbs. I have often gotten the feeling from the second vet's office that they really push products.
Of course I want to do the right thing for my dog but if I don't need the 2-10lbs Interceptor, then I don't want to get it. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

I would go with the lower dose since one of the Vets said that was okay. However, I might consider the larger dose if I was in the middle of a nasty mosquito season.
We use to give our Chow (55lbs) the 25-50lb Heartgard during the cooler months. We had another dog that fell into that weight range. It was cheaper for us to buy a 6 month supply (3 months for each dog) and the Vet said it was fine. Our Chow never tested positive.
My boss's dog tested positive for heartworms when on a lesser dose. The Vet said it was probably because the dog was throwing up the pill and my boss didn't know. He was giving the pill in the mornings before he let them out to roam during the day. The Vet suggested giving the dog the pill at night when the dogs where confined and resting. My boss hasn't had either of his dogs test positive since then and they are currently on the the same dose as before.

Espinocm, I'd say go with the lesser dose, and even if you only give it 6 months out of a year (depending on your climate, of course), you should be fine. Besides, 107 is kind of large for a GSD, maybe losing 7 lbs. would be a good thing ?

Thank you both very much for your quick replies.
We live in OK and I give him Interceptor and apply Frontline all year. My GSD is a male and is a little larger than the average sized GSD; however, he was even more overweight. But at his last vet visit in Oct, he had lost 10lbs and I am not so sure that he hasn't lost a little more.
I have used this site twice and have nothing but good things to say about my experiences. Thank you again.
