It isn't cancer!!
Thank you God!! I just can't believe it. I really expected the worse and on top of that thought they couldn't remove it.
It is a rare type of organism that caused an abscess without pus which is partially what threw everyone off track. Abscesses typically have pus. It may be solitary or it may be a fistula from the salivary gland. If it is from the gland they will have to remove the gland which is curative.
They faxed me the biopsy report and it said "No evidence of neoplasia"...four very very sweet words. ;D ;D
It was noted to be chronic abscess tissue which means that it has been there festering for some time. I don't know for how long. Salivary gland trauma is more prevalent in certain breeds (German Shepherds for one) and can be caused by chewing on something foreign, a bite to the area, or trauma to the mandibular area. Now that we think back, Sunny jumped into a bush in the yard chasing a raccoon and he broke the bush but there was no outward trauma that we could see. But it makes sense that maybe a branch hit his neck in the area of the mandibular salivary gland. I am hoping it isn't the gland and that it is just a solitary abscess but I can deal with whatever it ends up being now that I know it isn't inoperable cancer!!!
The mass has reduced in size so much compared to how it was even just two days ago. If it isn't a fistula from the gland, the capsule will resorb and that is the end of that.
Every morning when I wake up, the first thing I check is Sunny and the wound. He has been shy about letting me see it but I insist. This morning I said let me see and he rolled over on his back and exposed his entire neck to me. Isn't that so cute. He must have felt better.
Thank you for your prayers.
