I asked the neighbors for their dog's medical records they said she was up to date on everything. I still wanted them (to have for the heck of it and also to give a copy to my vet) so I asked if I could send my mom to their vet for a copy. They said sure.
My mom just gave the records to my husband and he was reading them to me over the phone. I haven't seen them yet. The only time the dog has been to the vet since since they had her was 4 months ago. She was given a rabies shot and the owners declined distemper/parvo shots and heart worm/fecal worm test. Also it said "Advised Interceptor ASAP" and said something about possible worm infestation. I just spent the better part of a hour researching worms in dogs on the net. I am completely grossed out. Our vet visit is tomorrow. I will look at the records tonight. My husband was having a hard time reading some of the writing.
A few things, I have never used Interceptor. My dogs have all been on Heartgard. Is there a difference in the two? I don't even know if my vet carries Interceptor.
Also, I have never had a dog that didn't get puppy shots. Are their some other shots or tests I should ask the vet about when I take her in? I am sure the vet can recommend a lot of things but I want to get an idea of what to ask her. I am assuming the vet bill will be around $300 for tests and shots. I am not sure how much her treatment will be. If she does have a severe worm infestation (fecal), would it be better to leave her at the vet for treatment? I do not know how difficult it is to get rid of them if they get in the back yard.
My husband doesn't want to keep her if she has heart worms but that isn't 100%. Personally, I think she has them. I can probably talk my husband into keeping her if she just needs heart worm treatment and deworming. I don't think anything I could say would get him to want to keep her if she is pregnant.
I have a headache thinking about tomorrow.
