After reading through all the info on this site, finally getting Karma past the initial sickness and finding a butcher that will actually sell me bones instead of lecturing me that it's not safe, Boo and Karma are now happily being raw fed .. and of course they now think I'm the coolest doggie mom on the planet
But even with all the meat and bones, Boo's anal glands are still going nuts. I clean them out externally once a week (because I'm dumb and haven't been able to find them when I try to do it internally ) and still have to take him to the clinic once a month or so to get them done interally. He's chewing like a madman and is starting to go bald on the bottom of his tail and around his anus from all the chewing and scooting he does.
He's been tested for worms - none there. No fleas. And every time they express his glands the diagnosis is "full, normal color/consistency" so at least we're catching it before they become impacted.
I'm starting to think my only option left is to get them removed, but from the reading I'm doing everyone says "go to a specialist". Well what the heck kind of specialist do I look for? I've heard of everthing from dog psychiatrists to dog dentists, but I've never heard of a " dog butt doctor"
Also, has anyone had this done and did the procedure go well? What is the aftercare like? And, just as a rough estimate (I know it will vary), does anyone know how much a procedure like this costs?
Sorry for the 20 questions, but I gotta do something for this poor kid He's just so uncomfortable all the time and I'm frustrated that nothing I'm doing seems to be helping him
I thank you, and Buddha thanks you too! ;D
