My bf just took Boo out and said he saw a tapeworm hanging off Boo's stool. He had them once before (could get them anywhere around here... there's so many dogs on the property).
Ordinarily, I'd just run out to my vet and get a tapeworm pill and all would be good. But my vet closes at noon on saturdays.
So... is there something I should give him over the counter to help him over the weekend or should I wait until monday and run to my vet first thing?

I think you have to get tapeworm meds from the vet. I wouldn't trust any Hartz type meds. If it were me, I would find a vet that is open on Sunday. However, I do not think that your dog will have a problem waiting until Monday. As important, you need to check for and if needed also treat for fleas. Tapeworm comes from a dog ingesting (while attempting to kill fleas on itself) a flea that has eaten tape worm larvae. It can also come from ingesting wildlife infested with tapeworm larvae.

The only vets open around here past noon on a saturday or on sunday are the emergency vets who will charge me an arm and a leg for this. I think I'll end up waiting until monday. He doesn't seem to be in any distress or anything... it eating/drinking/playing fine.... if he shows any signs of trouble, then I'll be sure to bring him to the e-vet tomorrow. But if not then I'll be at the vet as soon as they open on monday. I checked when I was at petsmart today.. they do sell a tapeworm medicine, but I can't tell you want brand it is because they were sold out. You're right tho, I bet it was Hartz. I didn't find any fleas on him when I checked with a flea comb, but who knows with his long hair I'll put some frontline on him just to be safe. Thanks!

Ok one more thing occured to me....Boo is due for his heartguard meds today.
I know you can't give a dog heartworm preventative if he has heartworms, but can you give it to him if he has tapeworms? I'd hate to give him the meds only to make him sick.

I do not think that the two are related. However, you can wait one more day to give the heartguard so that you can ask the vet to make sure.
