Cori is a dog of many mysteries!
When I got her she had this horrendous ear infection. Chunks of goo gobbed inside her giant ears. It appeared to be either a yeast infection of ear mites. She when she went in the cytology that the doctor did read yeast. So we treated for yeast for weeks. It was a little better but there was still a ton of goo in her ears. So I brought her back in and had the doctor look in her ears and then do a mineral swab cytology to check for ear mites. BOTH doctors looked in her ears and did the swabbing and no ear mites were found. After a month of treating for yeast in her ears I decided I was just going to treat her for ear mites. Wouldn't you know it, her infection cleared up right away? It was very odd and the doctors were both confused by it.
Well, when I got home vacation just last month I noticed she had a little goo in her ears so I brought in a swab and the doc said she had some bacteria in her ears. Not surprising cuz she and Divina had been swimming in the creek and playing in all sorts of who knows what. So I treated for 2 weeks and nothing. I brought her in for the doc to look at her (last time I just brought in a sample, no doc saw her) and he said, it looks like a yeast infection. But it doesn't smell (yeast is smelly) and there was no yeast on the slide. Again, no ear mites were found but I decided to treat for ear mites again and HER EARS ARE CLEARING UP!
How strange is that?! The doctors are very confused buy it because ear mites are very easy to see and diagnose. Heck, I've done it myself. If you can't see them in the ear with you eyes then you can at least see them with the otoscope or under the microscope. But she has NONE! Divina isn't having a problem and neither is the cat! Has anyone ever seen or heard of anything like this?
