I've tried everything to give my Nanook his pill. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've tried over the counter foods, pill dispensers and all sorts of treats. It is such a headache because he just spits out the pill everytime.....any positive experience anyone?

Have you tried peanut butter and just let him lick it off? Or, depending on what kind of medication it is, you can crush it up and sprinkle it in some plain yogurt or in a bit of wet food. If that doesn't work than you're going to have to force the issue , and do what I call a "manual application" ;D. Swab a little Vaseline on the tablet, put it on the tip of your finger, and put it as far back on his tongue as you can get. Hold his mouth shut and blow GENTLY into his nose, this works every time, but only if everything else has failed.

The only way I've ever gotten Zoe to take her meds (heartworm) was to open her mouth, place it on the far back middle of her tongue, hold her head up, and massage her throat, facilitating her swallow reflex. Then they gave me the chewable Heartguard and life become a lot easier.

Hm, I almost want to suggest starting to work with him on getting used to your hands around his mouth. Did you play with his food while he was eating when he was younger? Check his teeth regularly? Is this the same dog who's now showing dominance to the other dogs? The undropped fella? Zoe and I are at a point where she can be chewing on a toy and I can slip my fingers in her mouth and massage her tongue or the roof of her mouth and the only thing she does is lessen the intensity in which she chews her toy. It's come in handy when there's been a stray sock half way down her throat and I've had to literally reach into her throat to get it out. No sock is safe with her! Using the " drop it" command while reaching into her mouth has helped as well. It's why I can get into her mouth for her meds. It's just a thought.

Well, I tried that Medi Crunch stuff that my friend told me about and oit worked wonderfully. It's different because it's got a hard outside but it has a smooth inside to put the pill in. It's really kind of cool. I've been using them for 4 days now and they work great. Much easier and just like a treat. If anyone is interested, their website is www.medicrunch.comI will try to work on getting my hands in and around his mouth....it's tough, though....
