I apologize, but this thread is a little stream of conciousness trying to get all the information in. Thank you ahead of time for bearing with.
I don't even think it's picky eating anymore. Zoe seems to simply lose interest in her dry food after awhile.
I don't free feed her at all and we were having these problems before I had to add some white rice for the drizzlies that come with Innova.
It happened with Iams (before I knew of better brands). After awhile, my dog simply had no interest in the dry bits. Then it happened with Verus. And now Innova.
I use dry dog food as training treats and when I tried to use the Innova, she actually turned her nose up at it. Would have nothing to do with it, meanwhile, two weeks ago, she was merrily munching away. I purchased a small bag of Verus for training treats, the food she turned her nose up at a month or so ago, and she was all kinds of OOH OOH OOH what is THIS?
My father's impression of her feeding habits is one of "Well, I know you'll be putting it down later, if I feel like it then..." like she's a dog that just doesn't feel like she needs to inhale everything possible.
I'm just frustrated. She seems to make it 2/3rds of the way through a 20 lb bag before she just decides "Nah, I don't feel like eating this anymore".
I always thought you could keep a dog healthy and hunger happy on dry food for their whole life, but I'm starting to think that maybe she'd be all about the "Stinky Goodness" of canned food. Or that she's one that needs variety... I mean, she's been like this since Day 1 and I've had her since she was a six week old baby. She'd been eating Iams Puppy at the shelter and within a week or two, was turning her nose up at it at our house.
