Well - Kylie was in for her yearly yesterday....I resisted the urge to run blood panels and test her for everything under the sun. My vet used to only reccommend it for dogs over 8 but now they are reccomending it for all dogs -.....Hmmmm - I wonder if it is because they are seeing more serious diseases in younger dogs?
Anyway...I said no to the full blood panel and the titers. We did a HW test a fecal and an intra-nasal bordatella ( my kennel insists on this).I explained my very limited HW prevetative plan and he was very accepting of it.
I received tons of complements about her teeth, her coat, her eyes and her clean ears - as well as her good behavior. They also went on and on about her muscle tone and how her body looks...she is smaller than pre-raw but weighs exactly the same 54.2! Thats muscle baby!
Lot's of this I credit to raw. I told the vet about raw earlier this year and he didn't condone it but didn't berate me either. Yesterday I just smiled and accepted all the complements.

Niiice! And it's hard for the vet to say anything negative about feeding raw when your dog comes in lookin' like he fell off the pages of " Dog Fancier" ;D.

I was so relieved to find out my vet supports raw. It was like my dirty little secret, but the results "outed" us.
In my more optimistic moments, I think raw is still an oddity, but at least an acceptable recognised oddity? Like maybe we've upgraded from 'Crackpot' into 'Alternative'.

That is so great, Amyjo!!! I am still struggling to understand everything about vacc's and chronic disease etc., and just had another "conversation" with Magda, because Kera is going through her "summer" thingy and I was wondering if it is SM again. Below I have posted my question to Magda and her reply, which does make sense. My question: Subject: Kera What I can't seem to "get" is that both dogs were fine when I got them. No symptoms until the 3rd summer and then they both got the same thing. Pup first, then Kera later. Why would they both start showing symptoms close to the same time and the same symptoms!? I'm just trying to understand this. I do not know anyone else whose dogs have ever had this and they don't raw feed, vaccinate up the wazoo and give all the preventatives. I have never had a dog with this before these two either. ? Lois Magda's answer: This is because the chronic disease keeps building up. As young animals they show little symptoms unless there is a severe reaction to the vaccine. As time goes on and things keep piling up, the body works harder at ridding itself of the disease. Those animals who show "no symptoms" trust me, they have them, they are just not as noticeable because their life force does not have the energy it needs to get rid of the chronic disease. Always remember that symptoms are the LANGUAGE of the lifeforce telling us it needs help. If the lifeforce does not have the energy (because it is too compromised) to 'talk" to us, there will be little if no obvious symptoms. These are the animals that are the sickest. They look fine one day and then dead the next, or diagnosed with rapidly spreading cancers, or Addison's, etc. The more we work at feeding them right and raising them properly, the more energy we give the lifeforce to "talk" to us and to try to heal itself. Symptoms are not always a bad thing, especially skin symptoms. It means things are coming OUT and not staying in! ;D Magda Aguila I feel really guilty for "caving in" and giving her the one dose each of HW preventative and Frontline, and for feeding her a little kibble for a short period. I have been too ashamed to tell Magda this, but I feel it's my fault Kera had a "relapse". Magda tried to tell me not to give her HW etc. under any circumstances, as it would undo what progress we have made, but did I believe her?? Nooooooooooo, and now Kera is suffering the consequences of my stupidity! Of course I am very nervous about not giving the HW, but since I do trust Magda completely, I know IF she should contract it, I will have excellent help with treating her in the most non-invasive way possible.

Loey don't you dare feel guilty for giving what you thought was the best treatment at the time. Are you sure she does not have a yeast infection of her skin? Since this comes back right around the same time every year right? Are you sure that the pond does not play some role in aggrivating this condition? To me that would be the common denominator. I know Magda knows what she is talking about, but remember she said once something is homeopathicly cured it's gone for good and I thought she was pretty much cured. I know with my Lab she got reaccuring yeast infections untill I stopped letting her swim in Green Lake and got her a kiddie pool. I treated her with vinegar and baking soda baths and gave her 1/4 cup of plain yogurt everyday for 7 days. Even my vet at the time said that was the best route to go because antibiotics were not always effective. She smelled awfull too. I do not want to dissagree with Magda, because my knowledge is very limited compared to her, but to me this sounds like either an allergy to what is growing in the pond, an allergy to a plant that is in the woods or in your yard, or just one of those things that some dogs get. Because her and Pup both had it and you finally found out it was the SM, could it maybe come from some wild animal that is frequenting your yard? Rabbits, Deer etc... Well I hope Magda helps your girl. Let me know step by step what she tells you to do for her.
