I hadn't taken Petey to the vet since I got him a few months ago because he had just been taken by the prior owners and vaccinated. I had been wanting to take him though so he could meet the vet and so that I could make sure all was well.
So I took him today because his stool has been very soft for the past week or so (actually never really completely solid since putting him on Innova) and I wanted to make sure nothing was wrong. It was tested and all is well and the vet suggested that I change his food which I had been considering doing. Not sure to what yet though.
Petey weighs 100lbs but is not fat. You can see his waist and feel his ribs. I was surprised that he weighed so much because the prior owners has told me he was 85lbs. I think the Innova is very caloric to begin with so maybe that is what caused him to gain weight. Although the vet didn’t think he was overweight at all.
His exam was very thorough and I was very happy about that. The vet said he is in excellent shape.
We discussed vaccines and he recommended a three year protocol. I told him I would think about it but I honestly am uncertain if I want to vaccinate again. We also discussed a raw diet (I brought it up just to see his reaction) and the vet said that he has "issues" with it. I didn't get into it with him on this visit though because it wasn't a pressing matter for me at the moment.
So that’s it. Petey passed his exam and he loves the vet who commented that he had a wonderful temperment. He just stood there while he was touched all over and poked and had his ears cleaned. He’s such a good boy!!
