I have so many questions..... and my vet is no help at all ahe hassled me when I switched Oscar to Wellness. Why? I don't know. Because she thought Iams was a much better choice. whatever. So Oscar eats Wellness and gets things like yogurt, eggs, some meat and veggies here and there.... But now Oscar is allergic to something, and I'm pretty sure it's some sort of plant in our yard or in the park, as it happened a bit last summer and again now when everything started to bloom. The Landlord has promised to dig out all the plants in the yard -- it's a nasty little city yard with nasty weedy plants--- but in the meantime, my poor pup has rubbed his muzzle raw. So I let my Zack take Oscar to the vet - that was my first mistake, he blindly follows instructions-- so now Oscar has a hydrocortisone spray to help his skin heal and some antihistimine pills. So what I'm wondering, is if there are any supplements or natural things that will help him. I hate to keep pumping him full of meds everytime things bloom. My neighbor suggested that some flaxseed oil may improve the condition of his skin. true? ? any advice?

Absolutely, flaxseed is wonderful for the skin and coat! And as for the antihistamines, you can give your dog Benadryl, one 25 mg. caplet a day, per 40+ lbs. of body weight. I'm sure the stuff they gave you cost an arm and a leg . There is also a Yahoo group that deals with Homeopathy, I believe the name of it is Classical Homeopathy, very informative .

Oh, boy! Do I know what you are going through, and I am so sorry to hear how miserable your dog, and I know you, are. First, I would be careful of supplements of any kind. They can cause imbalances, plus a lot of dogs are allergic to things like Flax seed/oil. When I started feeding more *natural, higher quality* kibble is when my dogs started experiencing all kinds of skin allergies, and my female dog started experiencing almost a constant ear allergy. What ensued was over a year of trying all kinds of *quality* kibble and drugs and nothing working. I would sit and cry, because no matter what I did, they continued to get worse. I took them to 3 different Vets and not one of them got the diagnosis right...which was Sarcoptic Mange, so after doing research on my own, and coming down with Scabies myself!!!, I finally convinced one Vet that is what they had, they were treated and it went away. HOWEVER; Several months later it came back and this time the treatment had no effect and my female dog had large patches of skin with no hair. To make a long story shorter, I met a breeder and she steered me to raw feeding and no vaccinations, chemicals etc. Now, less than a yr. later after joining the rawfeeding list on yahoo and the TruthAboutVaccines list on yahoo and having my dogs treated for vaccinosis, by the Classical homeopath on the list, I consider the cure to be nothing short of miraculous! No more itching, scratching, or ear infections! My dogs are healthy and have beautiful soft, shiney coats. If you want to cure your dog and not just cover up the symptoms, here are the lists. I urge you to at least go to them with an open mind and read and learn. groups.yahoo.com/group/rawfeeding/groups.yahoo.com/group/TruthAboutVaccines/I wish you the best. I can truthfully say that if I hadn't found these lists, I don't think at least one of my dogs would be with me today.
