For some reason the lst one doesn't want to work. Here's the article.
Heartworm
Heartworm is transmitted by mosquitoes and lives in the hearts of dogs who have a compromised immune system. So giving poisons, chemicals and drugs only perpetuates the problem by suppressing the animal’s immune system even more. I believe the reason we see the high degree of heartworms in domesticated dogs is because of the drugs that have been used over the years. Coyotes and wolves deal with it by developing a mild infestation and then becoming immune. We need to allow our animal’s immune system to mature, to build up a strong, viable immune system to fight all disease.
A quote from Richard Pitcairn, DVM: "Despite the extensive use of heartworm preventive drugs, the rate of heartworm infestation in dogs in any geographical part of the US is the same today as it was in 1982. It doesn’t take much contemplation to realize that the path of continued drug use is a dead end road."
Let me add to that: Because the drugs are so deadly, they cause the health of the animal to deteriorate to the point they can’t fight off many other ailments, including severe liver damage from the poisons and chemicals in the drugs.
There Is No Magic Bullet
MDs, DVMs, the drug companies, all want you to believe they have the one pill or injection that is going to protect your children and your animals. There is no "pill" for anything out there. That’s the same reason vaccines don’t work. Tell me one vaccine that has obliterated any one disease! You hear of whole litters of puppies dying after being given a parvovirus vaccine. If it’s so great, why do they die? And, if they didn’t get parvo, how do you know it wasn’t because they had a stronger constitution to begin with and wouldn’t have gotten parvo anyway?
Let’s say you give one of the drugs for "preventing" heartworm, and your dog doesn’t get heartworm. Does that mean your dog would or wouldn’t get it with or without the drug? Why do we allow the medical community and the drug companies to brainwash us into believing chemicals are the answer? Better health through chemistry???
What Positive Approach Can Be Used
To Boost the Immune System
Let’s eliminate the negative and accentuate the positive. The first two following suggestions should be offered to your dog whether you are concerned about heartworms or any other ailment.
Let’s begin with a raw food program. I know people have been sold a bill of goods when it comes to "technology," by being told that it works better than the old tried and true solutions, but that’s not the case. The most important part of keeping parasites or any disease at bay is feeding the proper food to the specific species.
Organic food concentrates: Vitamins and minerals that do something for the body. Here again, not just synthetics, blends and extracts, but real vitamins and minerals that the body can utilize, just like food.
CoEnzyme Q10 with Hawthorn: Studies have shown that CoQ10 is very beneficial to the heart. This substance plays a critical role in the production of energy in every cell of the body. Hawthorn Berries is an herb particularly for the heart.
Colostrum capsules are excellent to build the immune system; colostrum powder if the animal is already having problems (See web site or call nutrition consultation line.)
Erigeron Sprays: Spray or apply by hand a natural formula on the dogs before going out.
Ledum 30C: Give your dog a dose of the homeopathic remedy Ledum before going out if you know for sure s/he will come in contact with mosquitoes or after s/he has been bitten for sure.
Microhydrin is an excellent neutriceutical to be given on a regular basis. (See
www.patmckay.com or call 626-296-1122 for info.)
MGN3 is a relatively new product containing Japanese mushrooms that build up the natural killer activity of blood cells. (See web site or call nutrition consultation line.)
Since we have been using Microhydrin (FHES) for so many problems, we have noticed that one of the fringe benefits is it gets rid of worms right along with whatever else we are trying to treat. Usually we notice it about two weeks into giving the Microhydrin (FHES).
