I was reading the list of toxic plants, fruits, and veg's. It list white potatoes, does that mean the plant or the actual potato? The kibbles I feed has potatoes as an ing. Also, for those that feed kibble, do you feed it dry or add some kind of liquid? Thanks again!

I have heard a long time ago that dogs should not be fed any veg's that grow *underground*, which would include white and sweet potatoes, beets, carrots etc., but it is a common practice now days, so I don't really know. All I know is veg's like potatoes and carrots have a lot of starch, sugar, which is not good for dogs.

Ah yes... I believe the worst part about it is the starch in the potato itself. The list complied in the last few posts of that thread not only include items that are in the first long list which I have symptoms for but many items on that lower list I have only found information stating that it is only unhealthy or toxic but gave no information as to what part of the plant or fruit/veg or what kind of symptoms would show. The information at the beginning of that list showed information from the ASPCA's website...so I know that it at least is valid information. I just put the other stuff at the bottom for saftey sake.

Not sure about the potato...but like many things I think if given in small amounts, it won't cause a problem. The amount in the food is probably negligable. There is potato in what I feed too. Take garlic (which is from the onion family) for example. In large amounts it can cause a problem but a sprinkle isn't going to do anything. In fact, many people give garlic as a flea repellent. The roots and long string beany growths from the potato (I forget what they are called...sprouts maybe) are poisonous even to humans. I personally do not add liquid to the kibble. I want him to crunch to aid in teeth cleaning although to be honest I doubt kibble does much to clean teeth..but it makes me feel better. For the evening meal, I add in a spoon of canned food (not good for the teeth) just for tastiness. I then brush the dogs teeth with an electric toothbrush and give raw marrow bones which keep the teeth pearly white.

I almost forgot! I do add warm water to my dogs kibble for bloat reasons mostly...
They also seem to like the taste a bit better.
