First let me apologize for yet another thread about poo!
But my husband asked me a question today I really couldn't answer. He wanted to know why when we used to feed kibble we had to make any changes gradually or risk colon blow...but now with raw feeding I switch their food every single day and there are no such effects. (pork, chicken, turkey, beef, fish, liver, eggs and table scraps)
I told him I guessed it was best explained by the inappropriate stuff in the kibble... and the differing quantities and types of innapropriate stuff in the different brands meant that each time they were switched, the dogs had to get used to a new set of stuff they weren't supposed to eat anyway!
I used to think dogs had sensitive digestive tracts and could only eat the same thing day after day...now I know that isn't true - they can eat a variety of appropriate stuff. The fact that one kibble can't readily be substituted for another shouldn't really be accepted as a "fact" but should give rise to the question WHY?
Why do you guys think it is?

Ok, first of all, the title of your post cracked me up , reminded me of an old Saturday Night Live skit ! Anyhoo, you actually answered you husband right, the variety in raw is what an animal is supposed to eat, and is no trouble to the digestive system. Kibble, on the other hand, is made with varying degrees of rendered fats and fillers, THAT"S what upsets the stomach of a dog. They do become accustomed to digesting it, but introduce them to another kind of crappy food, and blammo, ya got a good case of the squirts . I liken it to eating a healthy balanced diet and then one day stuffing your face with a box of Pop Tarts ;D, your stomach would probably revolt, literally .
