Hang with me everyone!! All of a sudden it will make sense!! ;D You are going through what I went through, because I didn't understand it and I was all confused because what I was hearing was completely opposite of what Vets had been telling me for years!
Aussienot: I wouldn't say you are *working without a net* as long as you are feeding appropriately and NOT vaccinating, which compromises the immune system, remember. Once vaccinated, you cannot *boost* the immune system by re-vaccinating. In fact, re-vaccination often makes the immune system turn on itself. That's why we are seeing all these illnesses such as diabetes (and from feeding inappropriate foods, such as grains/starches, which have high glycemic value (turn to sugar), thyroid problems, cancer etc. etc.
Amyjo: Just because there are a high number of anti-bodies in the bloodstream, that does not mean the dog's immunity is also high. Low anti-bodies in the blood stream does not mean the dogs immunity is low. All it means is that the dog was recently exposed to the virus, either through vaccination or naturally, and again, re-vaccinating will not make the dog *more immune* to a virus.
My husband and I were watching Cell dogs this evening and they said all the dogs came down with Parvo after they got to the prison. They did not say it was because the dogs were *unvaccinated*, because we all know Shelter dogs are vaccinated against everything as soon as they get to the shelter. They didn't even say they immediately re-vaccinated them either. They said they were going to put a 6 day *quarantine* into effect when new dogs come in to make sure they aren't *bringing anything with them when they come from the shelter.* Now, if vaccination worked wonder's as they say they do...why did they get Parvo? Or why didn't they immediately re-vaccinate all the dogs? They had an inmate who was a Vet, so they said he *treated* all the dogs and they were so glad he was there and could do that.
Here is another reply to Nicki's questions, and I intend to get the book recommended below.
Nickiwrote:

There certainly is!!! The people who are selling you the lab work would
like you to believe that there IS a lot of significance to the results.
Many of them probably even believe it themselves. But they also probably
believe that vaccinations are the way to go, at least initially.
The truth is that titers measure only one KIND of immune response, and a
titer can only identify that response after a recent challenge. If there is
no challenge, then the body will not be wasting its precious resources
generating unneeded immune responses. That is why low or nonexistent values
have little meaning. A high value probably means that the body is capable
of mounting a defense, and that there has been a recent challenge - though
I assume a high value could also be a sign of an over-reactive immune
system, too.
