Dozer is a 2 year old Golden Retriever/Labrador mix. When I got him 4 months ago he was housebroken but there was no training done otherwise, and the previous owners got rid of him for behavior problems. That's been taken care of, he still gets a little hyper once in a while but overall he's much better. He now responds very well to voice commands, hand signals, and whistle off lead in the field, even with other dogs around. He has not been neutered yet, that's going to get done this winter.
At home he is not allowed upstairs and there have been zero problems, he never gets higher than his front paws on the first step and we haven't needed the gate for over a month now. When we visit my parents it a different story, he is confined to the kitchen/dining room/den with gates. He waits until everyone steps out to the garage, upstairs, or wherever. Then he jumps the gate, piddles on the carpet, and jumps back over the gate. As soon as someone comes back, he hides under the table with his ears back, the occasional tail wag, and he won't look at me, so he knows this is unacceptable behavior. He's done this a couple times in the exact same spot, so I assume he's marking his territory. My parents beagle was incontinent in her later years, and has been gone for just over 2 years now with no dogs since, and the carpets were steam cleaned last year.
I've had dogs my most of my life, but never had to deal with this type of behavior before, any suggestions on how to change it? Also, It's been many years since I've had to clean up a mess and even that was on either laminate or vinyl flooring. What's good at getting rid of urine smell from carpet? So far we've tried Bissell pet stain and odor remover with active enzymes, and baking soda after that was cleaned up. I can't smell it, but I'd bet Dozer can.
