I wasn't sure where to put this but I am sure any training advice with this new situation would be helpful.
During tonights feeding time I decided to feed them outside. I needed to do some chores out there. I gave both Elsie and Sadie different feeding bowls and they were about 6 feet apart. In the house their bowls are 3 feet apart. There has been zero problem feeding in the house. After they eat both inspect each others bowls and neither cares. All feedings have been 100% supervised and they are on a schedule. No food is left in the bowl after dinner.
Today was different. New location with them being outside. I put the bowls down and noticed Elsie's head drop and she focused on Sadie. Elsie growled. I corrected with my normal "EH". Sadie went to her own bowl and Elsie started focusing again on her and this time growled and lunged. I blocked her with my leg before she connected with Sadie. Again a verbal correction.
I am wondering if this is the bitchfest 06 you all were referring to because Elsie is in heat or if it could be conditioning she had when she was a pup. When she was a pup she had another female dog that was a year old in her kennel. The other dog would attack her if she tried to get any food. I mean literally attack her. It was not a warning at all. That was one of the reasons the neighbors got rid of the other dog they had. Their daughter stuck a piece of hotdog in the kennel and the older female attacked Elsie. The mother said enough was enough after seeing her daughter crying and they got rid of the older female.
