I have a cocker spaniel who is about 6 yrs old. He is trained to scratch at the backdoor when he needs to go out. For some reason recently, he has decided that he does not want to go outside and rather does his business on the carpet, thats no good. It is usually always in the same spot as well. What could be causing this sort of behavior? Please Help! I would appreciate it if possible, for any suggestions to be emailed to me. Thanks a ton... angel_cake33@hotmail.com

Whenever a previously housebroken dogs suddenly starts soiling inside, the first thing you should suspect and rule out is a medical problem. He could have a urinary infection. Take him to the vet.
Clean the spot with a good enzymatic cleaner. Soak it through to the padding or the dog will continue to mark the spot.
There are about 50 threads here on this same exact subject if you want to read further. They will explain exactly what to do if it isn't a medical issue.

Totally agree with the above. I have sometimes found that simply keeping your dog away from the new spot he has chosen may be enough to break this habbit - can you restrict his acces to that particular area?
