I just thought you'd like an update on where we are in Magic's training. We have started her on her full NILIF (upped from the relaxed form we had been using) She is not allowed any shenanigans without being reprimanded either by voice or by leash pop. I have seen a different doggie in the last few days. She still throws a tantrum when I crate her and I don't pay any attention to her, in fact I just turn and walk away. But she now only barks till I shut the door of the house then is quiet till I come home and she hears the car in the drive. Once I come into the house she has also learned that no amount of barking or noise making will make me come to her, in fact the more noise she makes the longer she stays in her crate. I do not let her out of her crate till I've done what I want to do, IE: retrieve my purchases from the trunk, gone to the bathroom, taken my coat off and hung it up, or just go to the kitchen for a drink of water before I show her any attention. She is allowed out of the crate only when she is quiet and when I am ready and only when I am ready. She's becoming a little more aware that I might not like what she is doing. I can see her out of the corner of my eye and if she's playing with the cat she'll look up and see if I'm watching her (I am but she doesn't understand about peripheral vision) If she gets too rough she knows I will reprimand her for it. Aaaah the joys of motherhood!

You are doing so awesome! Keep it up! I think you'll start to notice after awhile she's going to seem more relaxed as well. She's going to know what is expected and that you can handle the situations. Doing good!

Indeed, keep up the great work.
Both you and your dog will benefit by establishing the ground rules thorugh NILIF. Stay consistant everyday and it'll just get better and better. If you both have an off day, it won't take long to get back up to speed.
Btw, if you have people come over - or if you're out and about with Magic, and they see your methods and try to sway you from doing them, thinking that you're a mean dog owner just say, " thank you, this is what works for us" and leave it at that. You don't have to explain your methods unless the person asking is interested in learning about how you got to have such a well trained dog!! (then you can gloat a bit too!!)
