Well I guess I have had Moosie for almost 2 months now. It has been a lot of fun, and she has really opened up. The submissive urination problems I was having started to go away about 2 weeks ago. She has lots of fun chasing squirrels in the graveyard near my house. She has gained some weight and looks a lot better. She also seems more confident and even has been friendly to a few dogs. She has great recall when I have her off leash. She will run right to me when I call her name. I really couldn't ask for a better dog! Thanks to all of those who gave me help with my training and submissive urination questions.

Thanks for your interest in Moosie! At the moment, I am trying to teach her how to "speak", but it is proving a bit difficult. I think she doesn't really like the thought of barking at me or something.

LOL My Fiancé taught Jetta to speak in ten minutes. Now sometimes when she seese a treat in my hand, she starts barking. But my dog is just a loud mouth. That’s why she learned so quick.

^^Yeah Moosie is pretty quiet usually, so I think that is why it is proving hard. Tonight I had her going for a while. I use the term 'sick em' when I want her to bark, because I think speak and shake sound too much alike, I thought it would be fun. But, she seems to want to wait for a little noise to bark at as an excuse for barking. Or if the is no noise, she does a very very soft bark.

Great news the Mooise is responding and settling in. You've done a nice job!
Keep trying with the learning to speak. Sailor is naturally barky, so marking and rewarding the speak command was simple with her. Finn is a silent watcher, but eventually I got even him to speak on command through sheer determination. Now he'll speak on command, although he has to warm up to the actual bark with a few throaty growls first. The easiest tricks to teach are motions or actions that the dog does naturally. For a dog that happily flops belly up for a rub, the roll over is an easy progression. For a dog that would die before exposing his stomach, the roll over is not so easy.

Moosie and I had an awesome morning! I got up early this morning and took her to the baseball field by my house. There were two other dogs there playing. I don't know if I had mentioned it, but Moosie is very unsure of other dogs while we are walking, and many times before she would show her teeth and not want to even let the dogs sniff her. This time was different, and she slowly warmed up to the other dogs. More dogs came, and after she remembered how to play with other dogs she really had a good time. I was almost starting to think she would never be able to play well with others.

I'm so glad Moosie is learning to trust other dogs. My dog is not that way, but she is just so playful I know she would have a good time. I wish I could just tell her the it will be ok, and that she would understand me.

Have you tried? I mean, Moosie seemed scared at first, but after just hanging around there with her on her leash for a while, she saw the other dogs playing and wanted to go play. You may just need to find the right dogs to play with.

That's the thing. I don't know anybody that has a nice young dog that she could play with. And the neighbors dog hates Jetta.

Perhaps stick a notice up at the local vet clinic, or the local pet store, asking if anyone local has a well behaved young desexed dog who would meet you for an hour at the park each week? Even Monsta loves to meet his friends for morning tea - it's just that I have to be VEEEERY careful introducing him to new friends.
