For those of you here with a computer (well, how else would you be here then?), read on.... My harddrive on my computer decided to go on a little trip without me yesterday morning. Oh how forturnate for me!!! NOTI'd just spent the last 4 days, after reformatting, updating files, installing security patches, drivers ect ect ect and was just ready to take an image of the drive to have something to put back on in case such things happened.....but NO, it couldn't wait another hour...nooooooooooo, my P.O.S. Maxtor 80gig hdd that is only 2 months old decides to leave for an early spring break down south.....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Fortunately, we're good for backup workstations here at Casa Sheppy so it's not an issue of being computerless. I'd backed up anything of importance to me to before I did the reformat last Sunday morning so having the harddrive crash, was frustrating but not devastating. Still, a tip for the wise, if it's important to you, back it up...burn it onto a CD or a DVD. People rely on the fact that the manufacturer says it's 75,000 hrs between hdd failures...well, mine didn't make it past 1440hrs!!!! Other than losing the hours needed to update service packs, security patches and drivers, it's not that bad but it coulda been worse!! So remember, that harddrive in your computer one day may go <cough> <burp> and then <KABOOOM> and go south too...if it's important to you, back it up.
