Here is what happened. Jetta was going potty it 1:00 am, it was raining hard but I don’t mind getting wet, so I was just sanding around, not really holding on to the leash very tight. When Jetta darted toward the bushes. I the leash slipped and she tried to get way from me, but I grabbed her fast. Then this dog came out of the bushes. I couldn’t see good because rain was all over my glasses. But from what I could see, it looked like the neighbors dog. I yelled, and it stopped for a second, then it kept on coming Jetta was barking like nuts. We were stuck with the side of the house at are backs, and the dog in front of us. Keep in mind all this happened very fast. Then the dog went up to Jetta and, just sniffed her. She stopped barking and started sniffing too. So I wiped off my glasses, and could see that it wasn’t the neighbors dog. It looked like a bull mix but I’m not sure. And I was so glad it was nice. The owner got there and apologized. I was just happy that there wasn’t a dog fight. It all happened so fast I didn’t even thank to say “stay” or “sit.” I’m so disappointed in myself.

Give yourself a break. If you had advance warning, you would have prevented the situation. But you didn't, so you did the best you could under the circumstances. You were lucky, and Jetta reacted great!

Yup, I agree with Aussie...you did fine.
If we were able to predict everything that could possibly happen when we're out and about with our dogs it'd be really nice, but you know it isn't possible.
So you train on the basic items that will help in those unforseen circumstances...those are the ones that you may never use (as in tone of voice for a one time "here now" command) but your dog knows you mean business.
When we were camping, sometimes stupid racoons would come near our site and at night, we wouldn't see them but the sheppy's would..one dark evening, Nikki leaped from a lie down about 10 feet into the forest towards a racoon that ventured too close...I yelled, "Nikki, here, now!!" and she came back out as fast as she went in. Rocky did it one time too and we used the same command and he came back out on the double. Last thing we wanted was a sheppy pursuit through dark forests at 11pm!

Thanx Peeps. I guess I was being a little to hard on myself.
