Oh wow Richard! She's such a sweetheart! She does look exactly like Rocky. Are you going to keep her name?

Yes, she is beautiful Richard. I am looking forward to lots of "stories" about her and Rocky. ;D
p.s. I wonder if dogs know the other dog used to be a littler mate when they meet them again when they are all grown up?

Yes, we will stick with Nicki...it's her registered name and she suits it very well... Her and Rocky just seem to be checking each other out..more Nicki checking the house out and Rocky keeping an eye on her..it's really nice to see the two of them side by side wandering around (now if I can just get a picture). We'll just follow our gameplan...Rocky will be first in everything and equal lovin' for both of them. With Nicki always being kenneled, she's going to have to get used to a few different things...i.e. steps...we don't have many but the first time she saw them, she hesitated...but she went up with out slowing down...now 1 hour later, she's like an old pro. She's checked out the crate we got her and she's quite happy in there too. So I don't know, maybe she is just a very settled in/adaptable GSD or maybe having Rocky around is making her feel more at home or maybe she's just checking us out too and just going with the flow... Anyway you look at it, so far so good...this is fun though having them wandering around. -Richard

OH MY GOODNESS She is so BEAUTIFUL. You know there is something familar about that female GSD face. No matter what color, no matter what age, there is this look. I see that look every single day, and it is that of great love and appreciation for their family and their home. You did good by taking a kennel dog in and giving her a better life, not say that her life was bad before because all good breeders treat their dog well, but in a family setting she will have it so much better ;D You were right when you said she was a carbon copy of your boy, and I do think they know to some extent when they meet up with a litter mate. I know my females always remembered their pups, so it must be a certain scent they remember. I hope things keep going well, and I am very glad Rock was a gentleman. WAIT till she gets the upper hand, OHHHHHH she will do it slowly like most females do, and she won't let him know that she is really the one in charge, but she will be in time, and he will slobber at her feet and love every second of it I think your game plan sounds perfect. LOTS OF PIC'S PLEASE I can't wait to here about "THE TALES OF ROCKY AND NICKI" Hey you could always re-name her Bullwinkle J/K I've had a stressfull day and I am little punchey Congrats Richard and Family

She's absolutely beautiful!! They look very similair...so I must have missed something, but are Rocky and Nicki litthermates? I can't wait to see pictures of them together...what a beautiful sight that would be seeing them walk side by side.

She's absolutely beautiful!! They look very similair...so I must have missed something, but are Rocky and Nicki litthermates? Yes they were....Nicki was one of two females in Rocky's litter...Ulla had 7 males and 2 females. Sadly, the other female got hit by a car a few years ago when she got off the property - this happened up north. The breeders kept Nicki with the intent of eventually breeding her and when they decided not to, it timed out with us looking for another GSD. We were going to go with a puppy but when the breeder said that Nicki was available and that they knew she would have a very good home with us, we said yes! As for a quick update, she polished off her food at dinner time (we fed Rocky first - went quite well) which is good and did her business outside with no worries (other than Rocky escorting her around...."...here is a good spot, go here"....lol lol ). Great night last night...Nicki tagged along with my daughter most of the afternoon and evening until she went to bed. Then Nicki came downstairs and curled up with me on the couch...having Rocky on one side and Nicki on the other sure was neat (this is a earned privilage with Rocky and Nicki will learn too..when we say "off" both knew, time to go!)....we put her crate in our room and at first, she curled up with Rocky near his mat (yes he sleeps in our room in the corner) but then I just said, "in your crate" and away she went. It will be a few days before we'll trust her free roaming around here, but I really don't think it will be an issue. She didn't make a peep and the two of them slept soundly all night. I think it is like Loey said, she is very appreciative of what and where she is...as she gets more comfortable, I'm sure her personality will start coming through more but for now, she has settled in very nicely. We have had a few barks occasionally and a few "in the chest" growls from Rocky so far...nothing serious for what he's putting up with but he knows he's top dog around here - we'll just stick to the gameplan and take one day at a time. -Richard

Great news, Richard! I have found that the dogs who were kennel or strictly outside dogs are the best when brought into the home, it's the ones who were raised indoors and ran the household that have the most housetraining issues etc.
