Slightly amusing story depending on your perspective. I get up late and work late ie 11am to 2am would not be unusual. I'm self employed and its a bad economy so long hours 7 days a week is the norm. I sell stuff on the internet and write web sites to sell the stuff, so its like two jobs -sales by day, web design by night.
So anyway, I usually get up about 10:30 am, let the dog out into the yard, get my cup of coffee, stumble into my office, read the news or visit a forum or two on the computer before starting work.
The other day, my loving dog comes in from outside and drops a dead opossum at my feet in my office. This was not the best way to start a day. My dog was happy as can be of his find. My best guess is that some neighbors have rat poison out and the opossum got into it. Still, not the best way to wake up.

Yeech! I'm not sure there could be a more unusual way for your dog to show he's on top on "security"!! Over the last 6 to 8 months, I've found a few dead (large) rats in my backyard fortunately before the K9 unit has - same thing, I think they're poisoned by a neighbor who lives on the one side of our house - they have an open compost heap which I'm sure entices all sorts of critters to it (grrrrrr).
