Hi everyone,
I'm a newbie on this forum and thought I'd introduce myself. I found this website by googling for dog training and must say I'm pretty impressed by the forum and all the intelligent dog owners out here! I have two dogs: Alana (a 2 year black lab-pitbull mix) and Charlie (4 month german shepherd pup). I adopted Alana from a local animal shelter about 4 months ago and I suspect that she was abused prior to being in the shelter because she is very shy and wary around people and gets scared of loud noises or aggresive behavior very easily - just my boyfriend shouting at the tv while watching a game is enough to send her scooting under the table. She is a total sweet heart though and her kind eyes won me and i couldnt resist bringing her home. She is very loyal to me and i love her to bits and pieces. I got Charlie from someone who was giving pups away about 2 months ago and he on the other hand is the typical playful, outgoing doggy dog. I've been in the process of teaching them basic obedience and found this forum to be extremely useful. I'm looking forward to learning from you all and sharing tips on training. Alana is a total food hound and is therefore so much easier to train. She already knows the basic sit, stay, wait, down commands and she's such a sponge that i've even been able to teach her shake and i'm working on teaching her crawl right now. I'm having a harder time teaching Charlie since he doesnt really care as much for food as he does for play. I have never had a puppy before (the dogs i owned before came trained by their previous owners who moved away and gave them up) and so am looking forward to learning so much from you all.
