Hi people and 'hu-man's best friends'!! I forgot to introduce myself-i've been posting away and making new threads- Anyway, we are picking up Ringo-our 8wk old, male, White GSD tomorrow morning at the airport! I haven't been sleeping well lately..guess my body's been practising for those first week or so for the 'outdoor' trips. My hubby and I are in our mid40's, 3 kids (boy21, girl16 and girl10). The 2girls live with us but the boy, er, I should say our US Marine is stationed in Camp Pendleton, CA(as we speak). We live in the burbs next to Princeton, NJ. This is our first dog as a family (had one when I was single-and was an ignorant dog owner!) and dove in to finally decide to have one. Sooo..you will see lots of postings from yours truly..hopefully positive experiences and not a lot of problems/questions!! But I thank you in advance for the support of this forum (sounds like an award speech, huh) and looking forward to this journey!! PS..funny note: my son wants me to make sure that we show Ringo his picture to get used to him already...he said he didn't want to get "attacked" when he comes home (coming from a Marine!)..of course, I told him we'd let him smell his "smelly" clothes from his closet..would that work?? how else can we do it? Wish me Good Luck!!

;D ;D ;D ;D THIS IS SOOOOOO nice!! Thanks for the HUGE welcome.. Sibemom: great to know your son and mine are such "babies"... aren't they cute!! You see, my son actually wanted a dog when he was a kid, but my hubby never wanted one. So he actually told me when I told him the puppy news that "How come when I left home, you're getting all the good stuff! A 43" tv, a dog, and...i think that's it!"
Laura: Thanks!! ummm, am being ignorant here...what does PM mean? I know I'm 45yrs old and that means only one thing to me. Anyway, don't worry, I WILL call you ... where in Nj you from?
many thanks again!!

CONGRATULATIONS AKINITO! ;D (and (small hijack) congratulations Ann's son on the big promotion ) The PM feature is where you can send a member a private message on the board. It's kind of like their own little private mailbox. With proboards (which is who hosts this board) no one else can read your messages... not even me. Anyway... There are two ways you can access this feature. If you want to send someone specific a private message. at the right side of one of their posts they wrote... under their name, avatar or picture... you should see some white and blue "buttons" one of them should say "PM". Just click on that and it will set up the message to go directly to them just like you would normally post. It will automatically put that person's user name at the top for you this way. If you want to send the message to multiple people you will have to add in the extra user names but just put comma's between them. Just so you know though the usernames for now ARE case sensitive (just about everything is here if you are using the search feature for looking for posts or logging in) So if your name is for instance akinito and you type in Akinito, it's not going to send it. If you do by accident just use your back button and change it, your post should be safe. I have rarely ever had it not come back. When our message board version upgrades here "soon" you won't have issues with anything on the board being case sensitive anymore. I haven't been told when this will be though. They've been saying soon since at least January that I know of, which is when we opened. If you want to access your mailbox to re-read messages or whatever... if you look at the top of the page under the Reality Bites Dog banner you will see the message "Hey, akinito, you have ** messages", ** are new. (the date and time)" Just click on the green part telling you how many messages you have and it will take you to your PM box. Just so you know... if you do get anyone sending you messages you should get a pop up box that should take you to your box when you click "ok". So you shouldn't miss it if you get one.

Oh... just so you know guys... the more pm's you guys save the slower it will be to open your pm box so don't forget to prune. You can hold a lot without problems but eventually it can get to the point where it won't open at all (and I can't fix that since I can't get into your boxes) so if it slows down you may want to get rid of what you won't need.

Yes I got the speach to about how when he left we got a dog It was'nt like we NEVER had one, because I fostered MANY while the boy's were growing up besides always having at least 2 of our own and I raised lab's for several years. When we moved here we had our Lab and when I had to have her PTS I just needed time, which turned into almost 5 years between dogs. I explained to him that it was kind of an empty nest syndrom, which was a crock because my house is never empty ;D, but it sounded good at the time . My Sibe adores him, and so will the pup Good luck today with your new arrival and take Laura up on her offer she is a great help
