I am introducing just myself, as I have no doggie. One kitty, though. I am currently a graduate student, but I plan on escaping in the future and actually having a life. For a long time this will consist of raising my theoretical 2-4 children. During this time I will not work, and I've been thinking about getting a dog and training it in Search and Rescue. I would probably choose either a lab or a German Shepherd for this. Right now I'm leaning towards a German Shepherd because even if they are nice people think they could be tough, and that would be good for when I go on hikes alone (my husband isn't terribly interested in the outdoors). I've been lurking about several different dog forums, one Leerburg and one by a guy whose last name is not Dogz. ;D It's interesting seeing if my amateur evaluations match those of others more dog-experienced.

Leerburg is great! I love that board and Ed is a pretty decent guy/trainer. You can learn a lot for what you are looking for there. As far as that other place.... I can't say you will find any people here who are fan's of that board (if it's the board starting with the initials DP). They definately have a lot to learn over ther. In any case you won't get any infomercials here... and we don't try to pull the wool over your eyes as far as the "secrets" go. Don't be shy ;D I look forward to having you apart of our board! Hope to see you around! ;D

Welcome to the board! Rocky (Richard) has a European bred (not sure which lines) GSD and he does SAR so I am sure he can provide you with insight. And yes I agree with Sibemom...RUN... if it is the place we think you are referring to. ;D

Hello Cipher. I like your plan-ahead plan. This is a great board to learn from and Leerburg is a useful site too.
And as to sites that have highly promoted information for sale, my grandfather had a saying that might apply: "When you mix mud and ice cream, it doesn't hurt the mud".
Welcome to the board.

Yes, it is that infamous place! I'm not registered there, I just look around. I registered here because the atmosphere seems less stifling.

Hi Cipher, welcome to the board ! We here at Reality have no probems with differing opinions and views (we actually love a good debate ;D) , unlike those at another forum who shall remain nameless . Looking foward to seeing you post!
